HiTec Tucan crash

I have an electric Hitec Tucan that I build a few years ago, but had never flown. At the field, once i did the binding with the xmtr, when I would actuate the aileron servos, they worked properly, but when the control was centered, one aileron would go full-up and full-down in succession 3 or 4 times. After a couple of minutes, this stopped, and I (unwisely) decided to try flying the plane. This was a windy day, probably not suitable for flying this light styrofoam plane. But I did. It did great flying into the wind and turning cross- and downwind. But . . . when I turned back into the wind, the ailerons went bat crazy and the plane did a knife-edge dive into the ground. The motor mounts were broken, and the styrofoam wing cracked a bit, but it is fixable.

Questions: (I am not going to ask if it was reasonable to try to fly the plane when the control surfaces were apt to be flipping around.)
1. Has anybody experienced this behavior with control surfaces? If so, is there some kind of fix or diagnostic scheme I should have done?
2. If anybody has built this plane, do you have the plywood board from which the plywood parts were taken? I need to make a template of the motor mount in order to get moving on the repair.

Thanks!
