CA 2.3 Extra - Christopher Goes Low!!

This past Saturday a good friend of mine who was letting his son fly his CA 2.3 Extra put the plane in flying pretty low inverted over the runway... Needless to say it was a sad day but also a great crash!!... I'll let his father explain more as he will not doubtly find this post and want to tell what happened and what he said to his son several times before the plane went in. One thing to remember....PUSH..PUSH...PUSH....When flying inverted....

Enjoy the movie... and PM me if there are any problems downloading...

RE: CA 2.3 Extra - Christopher Goes Low!!

Thanks Paul for the commentary and the post, and to Mike for the video. Sad but true he pulled when he should of pushed, of coarse this has to happen to my newest plane, this was flight #10. He really felt terrible about the whole incident, but we all kept telling him that he didn't do anything that anyone else that flies RC has not already done. No point in getting mad about it, just learn from the mistake. If you are feeling really sorry for him, he will accept donations to fund the replacement! As it stands he won't get an allowance until 2025. There are several parts on the plane that had no damage and are now for sale on the RCU marketplace under Giant Scale. If you need CA parts, we have them at substantial savings over what they change, with more reasonable shipping charges! Needless to say, my new CA 2.6 (no more 2.3 for me) will be here next week and no, Chris will not have his hands on my new plane anytime soon. Don't feel too sorry for him, he can fly either his 30% Carden Extra or my old GP Patty.

Sorry about the plane!

It's really not worth repairing - but the landing gear, stabs, elevator and left wing never touched the ground so they are like new! Now if I can only sell them to another unfortunate sole that had a little bad luck with their CA 2.3 and needs some replacement parts.

the fuse didnt look to bad. It looked like only the fire wall broke off and the fuse snaped in half. Send me some pics of the carnage, if u can. i would like to see. You can also send them to me at [email protected]

RE: CA 2.3 Extra - Christopher Goes Low!!

The fuse was broken in several places and totally destroyed. It could of been repaired with about 10 pounds of bondo but the beauty of this plane was its weight which translated directly to performance. Additionally one of the wings was torn pretty good, the rudder was broken in half and the engine / firewall was destroyed. Surpirsingly several parts survived w/o and issues, they are for sale in the marketplace.

That looked pretty bad, did the engine survive, I doubt it as it as a loud thud.

Sorry for your loss,

Some more post mortum...the plowed over field it hit was actually a blessing, it was really soft and lessened the damage to the motor. The Tru Turn had NO DAMAGE and the DA had what I think will only be minor damage. Mr. Dave @ DA, if your listening give me good news!

I hope you made the Little guy pay for it! Although I believe it was the Mokken guy that was pushing him into it!

RE: CA 2.3 Extra - Christopher Goes Low!!

Hey that is my biggest fear on the low inverted runs. A brain fart where I pull up instead of pushing down. Some habits over decades have been burned in my brain which typically tells my brain to pull up whenever I am in trouble or disoriented. I am always afraid on a low inverted pass that I might go with reflex (bad) instead of logic (good)

I didn't recognize the field.
Which one do you guys fly at?

RE: CA 2.3 Extra - Christopher Goes Low!!

The field is located just outside Milledgeville, Ga...the field sits on 1800 acres of private property. It's small club, only 30 or so members. I live an hour from GMA but drive two hours every weekend to go fly at the sand pit, one of the best fields in Ga and nothing around for miles....
