Death of an Eagle
i don't know who all got a chance to see this video...........
[link=http://www.rcuvideos.com/view_video.php?viewkey=ba1ab13d742e22eed8da]video link[/link] but i thought i'd give everyone an update. as bad as i hate to say it........(no pun intended) "the eagle has landed" permanently. i wasn't there and i didn't get to see it. with less than 10 flights on it, this beautiful bird has met it's demise and now resides in that big boneyard in the sky. the pilot said he "tried to bring it up too fast" , started tip stalling, almost saved it by dropping the nose, once the wings quit rocking he went right back into the elevator and BAM stalled one last time and came down. such a beautiful bird. it's really a shame. the owner/pilot wants me to come take a look when he gets all his gear out of it. i don't know if he wants to see about repairing it, selling it, or what. we'll wait and see. |
RE: Death of an Eagle
the pilot said he "tried to bring it up too fast" , started tip stalling,
That's an oxymoron. Most planes won't tip stall with plenty of airspeed. once the wings quit rocking he went right back into the elevator and BAM stalled one last time and came down. DUMMY! Dr.1 |
RE: Death of an Eagle
the pilot said he "tried to bring it up too fast" , started tip stalling, by this, "bringing it up too fast" meant that he didn't have enough airspeed when he brought the wheels off the ground. i've talked to others that was there and they said he rolled it about ten feet and tried to bring it up. |

DOUBLE Dummy! Don't fix it for him, that plane doesn't deserve a pilot like him. Dr.1 |

RE: Death of an Eagle
Be sure to check the cg on the second one. It looks like the first was a bit tail heavy.

RE: Death of an Eagle
i'll pass that one on to him.

...and tell him to add a bit more right rudder to counter-act the torque.
Bummer:( |
RE: Death of an Eagle
Was that first landing into a really healthy head wind? It appeared very steep, but controlled with a non-existant roll out. I'd love to try one of these beauties but have been cautioned about high landing speed. That would be tough on the somewhat tight field I normally fly at. Thanks for reposting the video.

RE: Death of an Eagle
the story i got (second hand) was the owner of skyshark r/c had re-engineered the eagle to be more "user friendly". in doing that the bottom wing and stab incidence was set to 0 degrees and the top wing was set to +1 degree (all compared against the fuse side) the positive wing incidence, i gathered, was more or less to act as a full wing flaperon in creating lift and drag making the plane come in slower and less likely to stall.

RE: Death of an Eagle
I watched the video, and the plane looked like it was fixable after it landed upside down. Is a photo of the damage available? If it's still fixable, then why waste money on a complete new airframe?

RE: Death of an Eagle
that wasn't the crash he had this past sunday!!!:D
from what he tells me the top wing spar is broke at the wing joiner the bottom wing trailing edge has damage at the fuse sides the landing gear was ripped out and possibly other things that wasn't readily visible |
