Pine vs. Arrow
 

Well.. I may have pictures at some point, but at the very least I have come to share my misfortune as so many others have done...

Yesterday morning I went to fly my Hangar 9 Arrow to get some light aerobatic time in before I maiden my newly finished SIG 4* 60. I had figured a few more good flights on the ole Arrow and I would get the SIG in the air. Well, that time just got a lot closer.

At the bottom of my third tank of gas I decided it was time to call it a successful morning of flying and come in for a landing. I had moved to the far end of the field I was in near a tree line to avoid some people doing sprints at the other end. No big deal as I had a huge area still. Well as I brought the plane around at and started my base leg to final I noticed it vanished behind the tall pine tree line and "Crash". I nice loud sound from the pine tree that I flew right into as I turned to final..

This would not be so bad aside from the obvious headache of getting the plane down but the tree is across a ditch and in the back yard of a double wide trailer. In fact, the tree line seperates a trailer park from the school I was flying at. To boot, there are power lines hidden in the tree as well. Oh, and its a good 50 ft up there.

So, there is a nice plane up in a pine tree at the moment until I figure how to get it down, or just call it a loss. Its an inexpensive setup compaired to my 4*. With the power lines in the tree I am not climbing or poking much up there.. I may just be flying the 4* this weekend and hope to have better luck... I swear the plane at a perfect angle to land if it ever come free! Too bad because I wanted to put floats on that thing...

Somehow I am personnally affected by this... Dude you can't leave me behind... I mean leave the Arrow behind, try to figure a way to get it, IF ITS SAFE, don't risk bodily harm, good luck let us know how it turns out!

If there are power lines near by call the power company. They might retrieve it with a bucket truck to keep people from being tempted to climb up there and get a jolt or worse.

that's a good idea play the safety card tell them you wouldn't bother them but your so afraid a child might climb the tree it should work and I bet they won't charge you either

I never thought of that.... The power lines are actualy going through the tree so its no streach of the truth!. I am going to try that out... If this works I will be amazed!

If the power lines are that close definately call the power company. You don't have to touch a line for it to be dangerous.

Having seen it done before, I can verify that most any power company will gladly retrieve it for you to keep you or anyone else from attempting to go near the lines. Let us know how she fairs when you get her back.

Not yet. I am going to try tomorrow morning. I have been working too late for there to be light all week. I plan to get up bright and early tomorrow and call the power company to see if they will get the !@##^@ Arrow from the tree. I'll let you know how it goes!

Well folks... Apparently Florida Power and Light does not see my Arrow being in a tree with power lines running through it, a problem from their point of view. I had hoped that they would get it as someone mentioned they had success with that approach in the past. Oh well... For now, the Arrow is still way up in a tree.... DOAH!

Well I'd call them back and ask if their saying it's safe to climb up there and get it down ?

Florida? I didn't notice you were in Florida...that tree can't be that tall ;) It was worth a try. Sorry they wouldn't help.
