First Flight of the year...

Well today was the first flight of the year for me and it was not the best.

Decided to take out the ole trainer .40 and this is what happened.

Was flying fine for approx 11 minutes when I decided to bring the plane in to check the fuel as I have no clue on the time vs fuel on this plane as of yet. So I was on final and went to shut the engine down it would not die. I raised elevator to get it back in the air to try once again and it did the same thing, no shut off. Well decided ok try it again, this time slow it down alittle further back from the rwy and let it hit a snow bank at a much slower speed at the end of the rwy. Well was on final slowed the plane down considerably and about 20 feet from the rwy the breeze shifted and throw the plane right into a tree. Damage was kinda minimal I think, except the left wing panel was ripped off completey(half of it still in tree). Ripped alittle covering on the aft of the fuse and ripped the landing gear half off (1 clipped completely broke, 1 ripped out of the fuse and the other 2 still in full tack.

Will try and post pics.

What's with the CA Hinges?

Being new to RC FLying (never flown, but nearly completed my first kit (PT40)), I am curious to see that the CA Hinges failed.

I would have thought that the hinges may have torn, or the balsa may have broken, but seeing the hinges in-tact, but seperated from the wing TE is a little concerning. Is this failure of the CA glue "normal"?

With enough force even CA hinges will let go. But don't worry they are tried and true they work excelent as long as you install them right.
Later Jim
