The Resurrection Thread

I'll post the before pic of a basket case I got for free tomorrow. It is a .40 size trainer of some sort. Seems to be pretty old. I plan on making it fly again using scavenged components from the infamous PT40 disaster of '06. Lets see any you have brought back from the edge.

RIP little buddy.

I think I would throw that one in the fire and if the engine is any good put it in a new plane, but to each his own.

It'd be cheaper and quicker to donate that one to the Garbage man, (he like's RC stuff). We've got a guy in our club that could fix that and do it quickly....I ain't him...LOL

That pic is of the infamous pt40 disaster of '06. No plans to rebuild it right now, but I can't throw it away either...1st build nostalgia or something. I'll post a pic of the project when I get home today. The Alabama Contingent jumped right on that one, eh?

I have resurrected worse, when they are free, practically all of the expense is labor. You get a lot of good experience fixing this kind of stuff and the way I look at it this is the fun part of the hobby. Most of my hangar consist of dumpster queens that I have rebuilt and all fly quite nicely

awesome crash! (with all due respect)... lol i thoguht those were bunch of small pieces but they were leaves lmao..

anyways sorry for the loss and too bad the wing got broke.

You aughta burn the plane and put it into a urn with Trainer Plane 2005-2007 or something... then make the last words of what you said before it went boom.

lol ... well i think its funny anyways.

RE: The Resurrection Thread

Ok. Here it is. I put a firewall and landing gear on it. It was a tricycle config, now it will be a tail-dragger. 40LA from the PT40 fired up ok today. Total spent so far $0. The wings were in one piece, but I cut them apart and am sanding all the dihedral out and will reinstall the halves with a 4" lay-up of glass and 1/8 ply joiners. I'll just post he 'after' pics when I get done rather than make a progress thread. I still would like to see some re-builds. I will cover it with scraps of left over monokote because I'm going as cheap as possible on this one. I might even remove a rib or two just to see what happens...

That can't be the same fuselage as the top picture. The rear tail section tapers differently from the trailing edge to the stab. The stab appears lower on this model. The remains of the covering on the fuselage are blue and red not white and yellow.

Yes. Very confusing, indeed.

I'll post a few pics of the Rise of the Mongoloid tonight if I can. It is almost ready to (partially re-)cover. Had to fabricate new control surfaces so I went with a disco theme on the rudder. I put pretty large control surfaces on and took all but about 2-3 deg of dihedral out of the wing. This was and kind of is one crooked airplane. I bet it flies, though. I've spent about $10 out of pocket on it so far.

He can put it to the curb cause, Susie, a friend of mine will pick it up on her route. She is used to seeing a lot of broken planes. Especially her own:D:D:D:D------- Scott

Hey, thanks!

I went and flew it today with the guy that gave it to me and he says he has two more basket cases he'll give me for free. Sweet. He is not a modeller and got the planes from someone else. His kid has been throwing them off the roof for fun or something. Anyway, he says one of them is much bigger than this one so I can't wait ti find out what it is. If he follows through I'll post before/after pics. Yay, free airplanes.:D

RE: The Resurrection Thread

Any idea what this POS is? Looks like a cub of some sort. 80" or so wingspan. It is pretty rough. Considering the type of engine and gear I would need to fly it, I'm not sure it is worth re-doing. It is not in my nature to have things that could be fixed laying around broken, though...

RE: The Resurrection Thread

How heavy is it? What condition is the covering that is on it now? Can you match it (the covering) pretty close?

Might be worth while if you don't have to cover the whole thing. Maybe patch what you need to, then get a good engine and see how it does.

Take a close look at the glue joints that are visible. If they show signs of weakening, maybe a drop of CA or two on the joints will do wonders. I don't know because I've never repaired something like that before, but I imagine it's doable.

Keep us informed. You have a talent. Keep it up!

You wanted to see another rebuild...

Here is the thread I did not too long ago for an Avistar I bought off a co-worker. I gave him (IMO) a high price for it and rebuilt it. I could have bought a new trainer for just a little bit more, but I enjoyed the rebuild.

RE: The Resurrection Thread

The Cubomination weighs 7.5 lbs as is, which is minus firewall and whatever structure needs to be up front. This is a 15lb flying weight airplane, at least.

The trainer turns to be a Kadet. I have the box it came in.:D It was not built to spec. and I don't think it ever flew before I got it. A nice surprise was what appears to be a complete Carl Goldberg Electra glider kit. Minus the plans of course. I think if I can find some plans for the glider, I'll build it next. I'll post in the appropriate forum for that, I guess. There is enough balsa stock in the boxes I got to scratch build 2 1/2A airplanes.:D The R/C gods have smiled on me.

Hey, nice rebuild Sneasle! Takes patience and beer. Well, mostly beer.

UR not the only one that wont through away a garbage plane
I am currently building a p-51 that was trashed at our field
the guy that owned it was doing a high speed pass at low altitude when he went to pull up he folded the wing.
so i have been building it ever since(plus a few mod every once and a while).

RE: The Resurrection Thread

That was a score, eh? Nice job on the fix. Pretty major work there.

RE: The Resurrection Thread

Ya it was a pritty good pick-up I hadent any planes on the go at that time.
The Damage was not that bad the left wing was in great shape helping me rebuild the right. The fuse was just alittle damaged with some cracks in the sheeting here and there and a torn-out firewall. One major things were the tail feathers that were totaly distroyed and I did not have any plans for the plane so i just found a pare on the internet and scaled them up to the size i needed.

It was not as exstensive as ur rebuild but it was realy fun because it was a plane I had never know alot about so In the rebuild I had to learn alot(quickly)

P.S I also killed my Pt-40 but rebuilding was not an option:D:D:D:D
