1 Byron Glassair/Saito 300

2 Byron Pitts/Quadra 50

3 Goldberg Cub/OS 61 FSR-MID-AIR with buzzard

4 A few :D trainers here and there :D

FormerCA, the cub hit a buzzard in mid air. As in the bird right. Can't think of anything else it could be, but i am always trying to hit buzzards etc. with my ulta-stick 40. never can get one


Please elaborate on that story. Already has me laughing.

Heres what happened with the cub;

We were out at our old flying site (an unused industrial park) just kinda flying for fun with cubs and trainers. I was flying my cub at kind of an UN-SCALE speed, (wide open/os61)-had just but a buzz-job on a nearby tree-line when this stupid ***** buzzard flew out of the tree just like a stinger missle and took off the right wing!!!

Of course, the poor cub then proceeded to screw its-self into the ground and back into kit form at about 80 mph!

Now heres the topper-The buzzard flew away!!!! unscathed!!!!! :confused:

Oh, well, I then did my usual-strip off all the hardware and take the remains back home for a VIKING funeral in my ditch-then off to the hobby store for MORE!!!

FormerCA, I know your pain. I was out on my first completely solo flight with my trainer last summer. I took off and had a pretty nice takeoff. Banked left to come around back toward me and I hear this HUGE bang. I thought that someone shot of a gun. The next thing I know, I'm seeing what's left of my plane immediately turn into a very expensive (for me anyway) lawn dart. Come to find out, I banked directly into a bird. The only thing that I was happy about is my wife saw the dirty sucker floating in the pond at the end of our runway.

If you are talking about Mike's Hobby Shop in Carrollton off of I-35, then yes, I am familiar with them. That's where I get all of my stuff (if I don't get it online that is). Very nice shop and extremely nice and helpful people. I would have probably given up last summer without there help when I was first getting into this hobby.

I fly at the North Texas Aeromodelers club in Denton, TX. It's a bit of a drive, but they are the nicest people I've met before.

Beardking-yes, mike is a great guy-I have prob made him a rich man over the years, couldn't ask for a nicer guy. I have seen that field you fly at-pretty nice.

I lost the wing of my fun fly due to a collision with the rear seat of a dodge durango. Funny story really. Making room for an 86" scratch built fly baby, put the seat down with the fun fly wing in front of it (seat of course moves forward.) Guy who I bought the plane from (builder/flyer for more than 10 years) said he had never heard balsa crunch like that before.

Easy Fly 40-great trainer-no fiberglass to hold the wings together. Left stayed on, right half became a whirly gig and compost.

Startduster .40-Dead stick landing in tight field. Skipped across the road on the springy gear hitting a steel building, Saito .50 GK first.

Not bad for 6 months of flying, eh?

My favorite plane that I lost was actually my first plane. It was the Tower Voyager. :cry:

I soloed and two weeks later was fooling with the dual rates on my radio. Well, I forgot I was on low rate and did a six into the ground.

I'm glad to see they are selling them again. I told my wife I'm getting two so I can have a spare in the closet. :D

Favorite plane I've crashed was my first DJ Aerotech Wizard HLG. WOnderful little plane. I flew it for a year in contests, then relegated it to light-air slope use as its weight grew due to repairs. I blew it up on a Max-Thrust handlaunch - the wing broke in two, and the fuse crumpled after hitting the ground, javelin-style.

Honorable mention - my first Weston Magic. Last time I saw it the dam thing was headed Northwest, over the Wasatch mountains N. of Brigham City with a dead battery pack. Broke my heart.
