Default Help editing pic, not a plane

Can someone remove the table and chair from this pic?
I uploaded the original for best quality.

NCBrit,
Good job!
I have a question.
If you go to my profile you'll see a picture of a Piper Cub.
I have tried to attach it to the box on the left that appears with your name when you post here.
When I try it won't go because I think the picture file is too big.
I have asked RCU about it and never get a reply.
Can you make any suggestions?
Thanks!
JLK

RCU allows you to upload a pic no larger than 85x85 pixels and 7Kb for your avatar. The picture on your profile page is 238x120 pixels, and is 83Kb, so you will have to shrink it considerably.

Photoshop will do that. See if your versions have a rubber stamp tool. You'd pick spot in the grass and clone it over the areas of the chair. Takes a bit of practice to make it look natural, but fun to play with.

I used Photoshop CS. Cropped out most of the chair, and then used the patch tool to take care of the rest. Much easier than cloning with the rubber stamp. This only took about two minutes total.

NCBrit: If you indeed have Photoshop 3.0, that is an extremely old version of PS.

PS Elements 3.0 is pretty good. It is geared primarily for digital imaging as is CS.

CS is the follow up to PS 7.0 or the equivalent to PS8.0 -- again geared to digital work.

I think you will find that CS will do quite a bit more than Elements will. Considar the price tag on each one individually and you will see a vast difference. In fact, there are far too many features to even start listing them.

The "rubber stamp" tool is in actuality, its CLONING tool. What you are doing there is placing your curser over a given area and you are COPYING that area. The settings for that can be FINE & SHARP or SOFT & FUZZY edges. All depending on how close you are doing the work.

A few things to remember is that when you CLONE from an image that came directly out of the camera, it will more than likely be 72dpi. If you have changed that dpi, the work will be much slower because the image is MUCH larger! THE LARGER YOUR WORK IN MAGNIFICATION, THE MORE PRECISE IT WILL BE!

Now then, that PATCH tool is not copying what you think you see. If it is the tool I am thinking it is, in PS, it is called the "healing brush tool. What it is doing is COPYING the TEXTURE.

Take an image of someones face and it has a big blemish on it. CLONING it will indeed get rid of the problem as long as it is not too large, but the "bandaid" should be copied from a nice smooth area and it will SMOOTH out the problem area.

Within your PDF manual that came with your program(s), read extensively, and you will see a decive difference in the two tools.

I have attached a column of the working tool with their names for reference.

Good luck

marwen

I actually used the patch tool. Not the healing brush. They are very different. To get to the patch tool, you have to select the extra tools that are underneath the healing brush icon.

BCovish, and anyone else. You can download a 30 day trial of photoshop (current version = CS2) to try these tools. You will see how much more advanced it is over version 3, and Elements.

I just downloaded the 30 day demo of CS2. It lets you save and print.

Hey, I realze this is several months old but I just recently came back to the universe. Can you elaborate just a bit on ow to use the Patch tool. I have used the healing tool to my delight but I'm self taught and still learning any help would be appreciated. Also I have had a hard time getting my photos small enough for the avatar. What I have been doing is saving the image as a jpg and selecting a o-1 in small to large slider is there more?
Thanks

The patch tool lets you repair a selected area with pixels from another area or a pattern. Like the healing brush tool, the patch tool matches the texture, lighting, and shading of the sampled pixels to the source pixels. You can also use the patch tool to clone isolated areas of an image.

When repairing with pixels from the image, select a small area to produce the best result.
Sampled pixels and source pixels
Patched image

To repair an area using sampled pixels:

1. Select the patch tool .
2. Do one of the following:
* Drag in the image to select the area you want to repair, and select Source in the options bar.
* Drag in the image to select the area from which you want to sample, and select Destination in the options bar.

Note: You can also make a selection prior to selecting the patch tool.
3. To adjust the selection, do one of the following:
* Shift-drag in the image to add to the existing selection.
* Alt-drag (Windows) or Option-drag (Mac OS) in the image to subtract from the existing selection.
* Alt-Shift-drag (Windows) or Option-Shift-drag (Mac OS) in the image to select an area intersected by the existing selection.
4. Position the pointer inside the selection, and do one of the following:
* If Source is selected in the options bar, drag the selection border to the area from which you want to sample. When you release the mouse button, the originally selected area is patched with the sampled pixels.
* If Destination is selected in the options bar, drag the selection border to the area you want to patch. When you release the mouse button, the newly selected area is patched with the sampled pixels.

To repair an area using a pattern:

1. Select the patch tool .
2. Drag in the image to select the area you want to repair.

4. Select a pattern from the Pattern pop-up palette in the options bar, and click Use Pattern.

As far as the AVITAR is concerned make it as SMALL as you can possibly make it. In fact, if you can, save it as a GIF. It will even be smaller than a JPG

Happy New Year

MARWEN, Thanks for the help, I'm self taught and there are a lot of things I have NOT accomplished in PS. I can't believe I have waited this long to check out this forum, I have taken a passive interest in the website for a few years while I was persuing my photography hobby and building a few museum pieces for a local collector. This forum is AWESOME, and I'm always eager to learn.
Thanks
