I bought the wife a new jvc gr-df450u dv camcorder for christmas and now she wants me to transfer the dv tape to the pc . I downloaded the included software to transfer the still images but I cant figure out how to transfer the video part of it . Im asuming I need to use a third party software and the other output on the dv cam .

Probably not. There should be a cord that came with the camera that will plug into the TV so you can watch the video. Just plug that into your VCR and record as you play. You may need to record from a certain channel etc. but basically if it's plugged into the VCR and you can see the picture on your TV, it will record.

Yes you need a 4-6 pin firewire cable (AKA i.Link or IEEE 1394) and a firewire port on your PC.

I picked up a 4 pin firewire cord yesterday and used the the movie maker software that came with the xp upgrade pack 2 and it worked great .
Thanks for the help
