Saving YouTube videos on computer
How do you save a YouTube video on a computer? I've been wanted to save some of the videos i see but cannot figure out how to save it to my computer. I'm not talking about saving a link to the video but actually the video itself. That way if the video is taken off the web i still have it.

Watch the whole video on youtube with IE Then Click
Tools-Internet Options-Browsing History-Settings-View Files
Then Right Click "Arrange Icons By Last Accessed"
Your video will be called "get_video?vid............."
Copy it to a different folder and rename it "Something".flv
Not sure about Netscape or other browsers
Then you need to find an flv player
eRightSoft Super will convert it to almost anything you want mpeg avi wmv. And its free.

If you use Firefox as your browser there is an add in called DownloadHelper. It will save videos from many locations to a folder you select on your hard drive.
Another program called Converthelper then converts the FLV file to AVI automatically.
All of these programs are free.

I use RealPlayer. When you mouse over the video a little box pops up above the video. Click on the button and it will download it. I don't recall what I used to convert it to .WMV or .AVI, but there are some free converters out there that should do the job.

There is a program called You Tube Downloader, do a search for it. I think that it's youtubedownload.altervista.org
I wondered myself how people were snagging videos off You Tube and calling them their own and now I know. I had one of mine taken and had a new sound track laid over it. Some clown in Turkey lifted it and after myself and some others hassling him not to mention reporting him to You Tube did it finally get removed. No telling how many others he copied and called his when they weren't.

I highly recommend this website it is spam free and requires no program download or installation.
I've used it a few times with good results:

Here's a free toolbar. Applian has a couple that do the job for free and an FLV player for files you do not want to convert.-BW
