The video software bundled with Windows XP is about as good as it gets for free.

No offence, but you are crazy if you think that you are going to get good video editing software for free. With a Mac, I use the iMovie software which is very versatile, but Windows Movie Maker is of no comarison. If I were to reccomend anything it would be Adobe Premiere and that will run you about a hundred bucks. Best of luck to you.

ha well you can find any program you want if you really search for it.... [X(] and the use of file sharing programs/networks heh... i just downloaded final cut pro..... too bad it is the most complicated program out there, until you get used to it. I used to edit with vegas and I found it very easy to use. I agree that the windows movie maker is crap and imovie is pretty user friendly yet powerful to an extent....have any of you tried premiere? It is about the same layout as final cut...

VirtualDub is a great freeware program - very easy to strip out sound - my review here:

...we have a TV show in the UK called the 'Gadget Show', they reviewed 10 different movie editing software products and the top recommendation was Sony Vegas Platinum edition. At £50GBP its got everything you will need and more. Got mine of Amazon.

+1 for Sony Vegas - Movie Studio, Platinum, or Full Version.

Vegas Movie Studio + DVD Studio is $89. Worth every penny.

If you're looking for something free, well you get what you pay for.
