Video and stills from a mounted digital camera
These videos were shot from my DFVti. I duct taped my new [link=http://www.dpreview.com/news/0503/05030804sondsct7.asp]Sony T7[/link] digital camera to the bottom for one flight then angled for other shoots. When I send it up again, I will post photos how I mounted it. Not pretty at all but functional.

Edited and compressed before uploading. The full uncut video will be up and linked to shortly.
The end of this one shows the time the T7 went flying. The DF came down through the trees....still not sure why, but it sounds almost like a total power failure, but the lights were still on the next morning when I found it upside down in the dirt.

Uncompressed, about one minute long. Taped flat to the bottom tray pointing straight down over my house. (disregard goofy shot of me).

Your getting good steady results, better than my attempts of hanging a camera off the DF - good catch on that second video. I have a video that ended just like your first one - you can hear the DF lose power for an instance and then down it came.

It appears you were able to fly that 4.7 ounce camera pretty well. I am still learning to fly the DF with hopes to fly a camera similar to yours. Do you have the "Pro" cross-bars? I wonder how the video will look after running it through the DeShaker 1.8 program? That camera does not appear to have optical stabilzing so your videos were the real vibration level of the DF. How did you attach the camera?

RE: Video and stills from a mounted digital camera
Guys...I will post some pics soon. I am staying with my dad this week at his house to help him after shoulder surgery. I will remount and get my camera airborne again when I get back home next week. Sorry for the delay. Also, as I stated earlier, I need new batteries because I think my several months downtime has severely degraded both battery's performance. I can only hover for about 1 minute with NO extra weight and then it settles back to the ground.
Soon...soon.....patience.... :^)

AeroRecon Adventures continued....
[link=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=905543152738458032&hl=en]Link to angled camera flight[/link]
Ok...for this next video, I duct taped the digital camera so the base rested on the plate between the front and right arms and tilted down about 45 degrees. I set it down in my driveway, set video mode, opened the lens cover, pressed the shutter and hit the gas. Please ignore the goofy comments at the end. This is unedited and uncompressed except for whatever process Google video does. It was a little windy at altitude which accounts for the bumpiness. One more to follow of the crash scene but Google video is slow getting these processed. I sent it up Wedesday afternoon.

AeroRecon Adventures continued... flight 3
[link=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1231177945010744945&hl=en]Fulll crash flight[/link]
For this flight the Sony T7 is still mounted on an angle. Take off from pavement up through the trees. Early evening flight before dark was pretty smooth...until...something happened. It was starting to get away from me a little bit and I throttled back but not sure what happened. Sounded like the motors shut down as it lost control and fell down through the trees. I hit a branch, flipped once and landed upside down. The canopy broke up, one of the thermal sensor leads broke, one foam rotor broke and a support strut broke. I found it the next morning on a dirt pile in front of the house under construction in the video. The Sony lens cover closed on impact with virtually no damage and still taped to the DF. I picked it up, opned the lens cover to turn on and watched the video.

...I agree now! But I did not have or even know about the nylons when I did this. Notice the lack of leaves....this was early Spring this year here in Virginia. Not sure when the new ones came out. I have the new nylons mounted now so no more foamies... Wanna buy some?? I have 4 new sets!! []

RE: Video and stills from a mounted digital camera
Google must use alot of compression on the videos or they use the old Flash video codecs becuase the compression artifacts are too visible for me. I thought these videos were just shot? But you got great video with just duct taping a camera on and using the old foam blades. You should try some more videos with the nylon blades and some damping foam between the camera and DF.

Hey AeroRecon, did you see [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4684024/tm.htm]this guy's[/link] AP video from his digital still mounted camera? He got some really impressive results.

AeroRecon, like the others said, that AP video was very smooth and clear! Your flying was also impressive, especially considering how high you went. Surely you were using Ti for all of those flights, right?

RE: Video and stills from a mounted digital camera
Don't get me started.... A buddy and I used to play "Dueling Airplane" .... Using ICQ or AIM, we could throw a line from the movie out.... then the other would have to provide the next line or few words. It was great fun. Then I found this...though we TRIED not to use it....
