RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
Hope this helps
Q. How many capacitors do I need on the motor and what values ? A. EFlight and Ezone discussions It is a good idea to fit at least 2 capacitors to most brushed motors to cut down on the radio interference which the motor may generate. The same capacitors can be used for all brushed motors, the value does not change with the size or power of the motor. The capacitors should be soldered from each motor terminal to the motor case. For extra security against interference you can also fit a third capacitor between the 2 motor terminals. Note: many Graupner Speed xxx motors have the first 2 of these already fitted internally. They are not easy to see but you can tell if your motor has them because each terminal will have a small wire poked through it. These just need to be soldered when you solder the motor connections. In all cases the value for these capacitors is not very critical. It is most commonly between .001uF (microFarad) and .1uF. Another way of saying these same values is 1nF (nanoFarad) to 100nF. Some people have suggested values as low as .000047uF or 47pF (picoFarad). What is important that the capacitors are CERAMIC types. These types give the most effective suppression at our radio frequencies. They should have a voltage rating at least equal to your battery voltage. This is not normally a problem since most capacitors of the right type have ratings of 100V or more. The most commonly used value seems to be .047uF / 47nF for all 3 capacitors. |
RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
I bought my V.4 used from Ebay. It had issues. I didn't really understand these issues until I learned how to fly the thing. But learning how to fly does cost some time and yes, even rotors. Unless you have a really bad crash the carbon fiber struts don't usually get damaged. But it does happen. I personally purchased extra CF strut materials from my local hobby shop that are distributed by Midwest Products Company. It is much cheaper to buy it this way and you don't have to wait to get the parts from Canada to get you up and flying again. The stock number you are looking for is #5723 It is .196 OD with in ID of .121. They give you 2 feet per section. I would not get the CF rotors until I learned how to fly as again, thats the first thing to go when you crash. I have found three places that sell rotors. There is a new supplier that claims to make rotors out of twice as thick material. I have not tried these but thought I would throw that in. With the carbon fiber rotors, some people really have good luck while others have vibration problems with them. If they are not PERFECTLY made they will vibrate your flyer to pieces! You must first walk before you can run. Take your time, practice in a big indoor area free of obstructions before braving the great outdoors. Most people, including me what to see that thing fly like the videos show. Those people didn't just pick up a transmitter and inside of minutes be able to fly through door ways, down slides, etc. It takes time, and rotors to learn "If it were easy, everyone could do it!"
I usually get my rotors at: http://airdyn.com/superior/draganflyer.shtml or http://www.spectrolutions.com/ or: http://parts.rctoys.com/rc-toys-hobbies/Items/319999? I like getting them from Airdyn. They ship really fast and they offer a pretty good deal. They also sell CF tubing that will fit your flyer. Thanks Mark |

Well I got my board back in the mail today only to find a crushed box and an extremely bent Circuit card. I put the board on the DF and guess what it doesn't work. I'm getting a little upset about this and there isn't a thing a can do about it which makes it even worse. It's on its way back to spectrolutions and who knows when I'll see it again. At this point I really don't care.

RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
I am so, so sorry about your board and the trouble you have had. As you might be able to tell, I too have had my issues. I would think that since Spectrolutions didn't send it in the crushed box maybe the post office can foot the bill on the repair. After seeing the pictures I can see why it didn't work. I can only shake my head in sadness. I am sure Mike will make it right, he always does. That does not help though when the thing is 'sposed to be on your frame and not in the mail. I too have had my board back and fourth to Mike's SEVERAL times. In fact I am told they have sent a new board to me and it is on it's way. I will be way torqued if it is trashed before it even gets here.
My dad used to say, in for a penny, in for a dollar. My first instinct when my V.5 problems started was to just give up on the project. But then, what would I do with all the parts I have made or purchased? How many times have you sent your board to Spectrolutions? I believe this will be my 4th or 5th time. In the last crash where the Ti went sideways on me it also trashed the camera. So that is not at RCToys getting a new antenna put on. I had such high expectations... Here is my direct email if you need to compare notes... [email protected] |

I had a problem with my yaw gyro when I first purchased the Df and I belive that it is the gyro on the verticle board. Hope this helps.

RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
I just got my new board back today from Spectrolutions. I was worried that my box would arrive like Koops did. But alas, it did not. I quickly threw on the circuit board, hooked up the battery and held my breath. Guess what? It flew!! Woooo Hoooo. I did a little Ti on it but mostly just fooled around at 3ft AGL just getting the hang of the flyer again. I am also test flying my new roll bar that has now taken the place of the canopy. Hopefully I won't end up having to use the roll bar but its nice to have it on there. As usual, Mike at Spectrolutions came through and saved the day. I know I must have been a thorn in his side. But at last I think I see light at the end of the tunnel. Soon as I get my feet wet again I will throw the camera back on and send some video. Sigh... Now if I can just get over being afraid to fly it... Thanks for listening. *M*

RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
Hi guys, i'm back again in the forum. ;)
first at all, sorry to all which have momentarily a problem with their df. My businesstrips endet now for a while and i have now time for my hobby again. My little overprised Toy.[8D] I made some mods to my DF, now it is 50% DF and 50% x-ufo. With this mod, the DF flys more stable than before and the replacemantes are much cheaper. Here are some pics... http://www.xcopter.de/images/df1_s.jpg [link=http://www.xcopter.de/images/df1_l.jpg]Large Pic1[/link] http://www.xcopter.de/images/df2_s.jpg [link=http://www.xcopter.de/images/df2_l.jpg]Large Pic2[/link] http://www.xcopter.de/images/df3_s.jpg [link=http://www.xcopter.de/images/df3_l.jpg]Large Pic3[/link] Let me know, what you think about. @fconcausa sorry, that you have no luck with your x-ufo but you can trust me the new shipment is great and fly's indoor perfect. greetings uwe |
RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
Where did you get the feet for your motors? Or, did you make them? I have been looking to do something like that with my V.5 Thanks, Mark

RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
Hi uwe2005, nice to see you again, maybe I'll buy another UFO X someday down the road, I really have high confidence in german products.
And by the way....GREAT WORK WITH YOUR DF ¡ Looks great ¡ |
RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
Hi markjester,
the feets are from the xufo, (you can buy the rubber-stands as replacements, price ca. 5$) and the one under the fetts is from a soft rubberplate. greetings uwe |

RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
Hi y'all,
I got my Draganflyer V Ti Pro control board back from Spectrolutions today (you can read my sad story in post 1192) and am waiting for good weather to fly it outside. I received the green heat sink fin things, but am finding it hard to get them on. What's the trick? I need three hands! I'm more curious than ever to know the connection between Zenon Dragan and Mike Dammar. They both claim to have designed the Draganflyer. It's got Dragan's name, but Mike is the go-to guy for control board repair. |
RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
Mike is a pretty straight forward guy. I think if you call him and ask him he'll tell you. I'd like to know the story of the draganflyer myself.

RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
Steve, remember you get what you pay for. I have a similiar camera system that I bought off of E-bay. hooked it up on a RC boat I bulit last year and I also have an IR one to view my yard at night. The problem with these cameras is you have to tune in the receiver to get the image and when I drive my boat even with the receiver outside and no obstructions I get a lot of distorion when moving around with the boat. And that is only about 50-75 ft away.
The ones I have are not compatable with the receiver that comes with the DF or the receivers from X-10 cameras and I have lots of them. Been playing with them for about 8 years now and have quite a collection. Someone wrote a review on those cameras and according to him they are not even legal in the US because of the Freq they use. Not sure of the link but this one is very useful for anyone wanting to play with camera systems http://www.rc-cam.com/ Also http://www.microwireless.net/ has some interesting camera systems |
RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
Hey all, after a short absence of hard work and a vacation to powell, I'm back and reading your posts with enthusiasm. After fixing a bad gyro on my flyer, it's flying in rare form. Much fun. I have a question though. Is anyone else's flyer possessed with evil self destructive demons? I seems that if there is anything in proximity that could damage my flyer, it heads straight for it.
2 examples. I was videoing a home the other day and a big dump truck stopped to watch. The flyer saw the truck then shot to wards it like a patriot missile impaling it'self on the front grill. Savage! I scooped up my broken little baby, cursed the driver who was busy examining his truck for scratches (like that could compare to my broken motor mounts) and headed home to my repair shop. After repairs ( try to keep extras of everything on hand) I headed out to our local model airport. I did some more flying until the flyer spotted a big ditch that was completely out of the way. In true form, the flyer took off to wards the ditch. Nothing I could do could stop it. Terrified, I ran to the bank. Thankfully, the ditch was dry but there was the flyer twitching with disappointment on the sandy ditch bed. It only broke an arm but I'm convinced it wanted to drown itself! Is there a blessing or exorcism for this? Your experiences with the demons? Ah well... Looking forward to your posts and videos Scott slcity.com/df |
RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
I had these same things happpen. After sending the board back and forth to Mike about a million times here is what I discovered what was wrong:
The connection between the vertical and horizonal board in tenious at best. I could actually wiggle my vertical board and watch it lose and pick up the transmitter signal. Apparently right in that same area is where one of the tracings for the receiver is located. This would explain your rocket analogy. If it has a signal, it flies really well. It loses it and off she goes. I didn't see where you have a version 4 or 5. The five is "supposed" to land on it's own if there is a LOS. My version 5 had a mind of it's own regardless of its programming. Finally I got fed up with fixing it after these escapes to the border and sent the board back for replacement. Having a new board has fixed any problems I had. The repair they were doing just didn't cut it. Or the repair would last for maybe one flight and start acting up again. Try making sure all the board components are pushed in and seating in their respective sockets. Check the antenna to see if it's loose. Changing out the board was my issue any way. It's almost like you can get a board off the assembly line that works great but the very next one in line can be an issue. Its hit or miss til you find one that actually works. They saved the bad ones for me. Worst case, send it back to Spectrolutions and keep doing so until it is fixed right. It is too much of an expense to let it crash every time it flies! Mark |
RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
Actualy my flyer performs perfectly. The problem is it does what it's told. My problems (demons) are pilot error... not that i would admit it.

RE: Draganfly iv. Anyone flew it?Control?
I konw the feeling. THat is why I designed a little roll cage instead of the canopy-just in case! Happy flying
