Default E-Flite Spider Mount Removal

I have a nice E-flite 280 brushless motor and I want to remove the spider (bulkhead) mount so I can stick it into a carbon shaft fuse and go flying.
Trouble is that I can't get the mount off the motor, even after removing the socket head screws and some gentle heating of the mount with a hot soldering iron.
It won't budge. Is the mount removable? Thanks for your help!
