Default CX-2 Carbon Fiber Tailboom?

You think i should get one? They save some weight and they look cooler then the stock tail attachment. Will the CX ones work on the CX-2?

Man, I really hope that fits on the CX2, I want one of those BAD. That is my favorite look, I really don't much care for the obviously plastic tail section.

I assume this means you were actually able to mount it to your CX2, and that it fits properly?

I hope so, I will order one tonight!

Loading up Ebay page on firefox to give that brilliant man 20 more bucks.

Quick question - how does it actually attach to the back of the heli?

if you look at the pics there on EBAY.
you will see a plastic piece with 2 holes in it
above the pic of the C/F booms.

that piece has double sided sticky tape that tapes to
the rear of the servos. at the top of the piece, you will
see 2 arms. those arms have holes in them for the
upper rearmost body c/f body mount to go thru, and then
thru the rod mount above the servo.

you then set the c/f in one of the holes shown, and on the sides
of the plastic block are two set screws to lock the boom in place

I ordered one of these from stersman as well, last week.

Still waiting to receive it. I did get an email from him that said I'd have to trim the heli so it wasn't nose heavy (as there is a minor weight savings) but I didn't really pick it up for any other reason that it looks hella cooler than the included molded rear end.

BTW, I also ordered a RED one. Hopefully it and my CX2 come today.

Thanks for posting that link. I just ordered one for my CX.
If anybody else is intrested he's dropped the price to $16.99.
Apparently he's coming out with a new model and clearing out the existing ones. Here's the link to the new add.

Ok, silly question.
The install looks pretty straight forward but where does the antenna go? I mean, I'll find a place for it, it's not that big a deal, but I was wondering where people who have made the switch put it. Will it go in the boom? Can it? Will the carbon fiber interfer with the signal?

Your antenna should never touch any carbon fiber, period.

Maybe put it through a drinking straw inside the shaft, I dunno =/.

I have one for my CX from stersman and it fits perfectly. I needed to adjust the servo linkage to compensate for the weight savings, that was it. I might order another one for my CX2. Nice thing about the CX2 is that we don't have to worry about routing that long CX antenna! Installation should take all of 2 - 3 minutes.

So, for all us poor slobs with the CX, what'd ya do with all that wire?

Well shucks, I routed it and looped through the carbon fiber boom, as suggested by the seller, stersman. I had no idea this might be a no-no, as stated above. Haven't experienced any interference problems, she flies just fine!?

I have one of sternsman's boom set-ups and decided to install an Azarr micro antenna. You cut and leave 3'' of the antenna wire and solder/heatshrink the antenna on and mount with small zip-ties around the landing gear frame. Weighs less than the 40" or so stock wire, so there is even more weight shaved off.

I have 5 BCX's here at work and we fly them all over the aircraft hangar at altitudes of 25ft+ and never ever had any issues running the wire through the tail boom. This of course is a moot point on the BCX/2 as it doesnt have a long antenna.

Default RE: CX-2 Carbon Fiber Tailboom?

Hi guys! stersman here, the carbon fiber boom man from ebay. I was a little bored tonight so I was doing some goggle linking and wound up here. First off I would like to say thank you for all the people here that have purchased one of my booms. Honestly I do not post on this forum, and I do not spam boards with my products but it sounds like it might be approtiate for me to chime in now.

The CX2 has smaller servos than the CX1. My boom kit now includes a thicker double stick spacer in the package for CX2 flyers. The boom kit now works even better on the CX2 because you do not have to deal with the antenna. For those that have the CX1 the methods talked about above for running the antenna are work well. But I would like to stress one thing. Do not be afraid to run the antenna through the carbon boom on the CX1. I have been doing it now for one year with no problems on my CX test heli's. Also Nunujet mentioned above he has not had any problems either and I know that he has as much if not more experience than I do. He bought some booms from me winter of last year if my memory is right and he also has a lot of heli's flying in his hangar. In theory, it is not the best solution but in reality it works great. The little micro antennas also work great but if you do not have one yet put it through the boom. The great thing about the CX2 is I now no longer have to convince people that the carbon boom will not affect the signal enough to cause any problems.

Also it is true that I am discounting the model 1 and the model 2 was discontinued in October. It is also true that I am coming out with the Model 3 (M3). The M3 is the best boom kit I have made yet and that is why I will not be making the others. I make, design and test my products and have the ability to create just about any style of boom kits. The M3 was designed with all the feedback I received from my older booms so in reality the M3 was designed with the help of many people here. The improvements on the M3 are as follows. A better fit adaptor. The adaptor will appear the same at first but the tolrences have been improved. The boom fits nice and snug into the adaptor with no set screws needed, it is just a perfect pressure fit. The carbon fiber I am using is 5mm pultruded with a smooth finish. It has the best weight, size and strength for the money. The fin set is now my mold. I can control what colors are molded and what materials they are molded out of. The M3 fins now slides on the boom like the model 2. I now have a vertical fin and a horizontal fin. The horizontal fin acts as a tightener for the new o-ring stabilizer. You just slide the fin back to add tension. It works really cool. I normally do not toot my own horn too much but I am pretty excited about this new kit. If you buy the Model 1 you will receive a $5.00 coupon off the M3. The retail price of this kit is going to be $18.99. Anyone that has purchased a boom from me in the past will qualify for $5.00 off this new boom.

I also have skids!!!

Default RE: CX-2 Carbon Fiber Tailboom?

My cx actually flies better with the carbon boom!
I also have had absolutely no problems with running the antenna through the boom and am very happy with both the product and the customer servise.
I also find it easier to access the heli for repair or general maintenance.
You really can't go wrong with this purchase.
