Hi all well i had just received my new gears for my three old blade. Im new to flying and had a couple of minor bumps in the house. Wel i was instructed on how to change the gears and make sure there was no debri. Well changed three servos and left the rear rotor one alone. Went through the check with the amin motor unplugged and adjusted for zero. After getting that all set went for a test, in the basement. Reved up and moved all my servos to make sure everything was working fine when my right side servo stoped moving before getting in the air.Took apart everything was fine on the gears but no power to the little motor. Spun it by hand and it kicked in but not strong? Is this a defective servo? Should i just replace that one or all three if they are no good?[&o]

swash type doesn't help with a servo that is intermittent - either you bound it up when putting the gears in, or its buggered
all these servo gear replacements on the 400 !!! - uncanny that my tags haven't eaten a servo yet, knock on wood - could it be a manuf issue with the earliest builds the best?
as i rebuild the b400 to scale, and all the serious detail work that entails, i'm wondering if i should just change out the servos now and get it over with - if i had some handy bucks i'd do that without thinking
i never busted a servo on the trex either, so that does make sense in a weird way

I had a blade strike last night with my 400 and it stripped gears in two of the servos. I'm replacing one servo completely (guinea pig servo so I can learn more about this stuff) and gears on the second. I may just buy a DSP75 and swap the tail servo out but I'm not completely sure yet.
Anyway, these plastic servo gears look like they don't take much punishment. I'm considering a metal gear servo upgrade at some point in the future, but I can't afford to take a $150 leap when I've just bought this B400 and still only 2 months into the heli hobby.
After seeing the repair bill for last night's two minutes of fun, I may get a honey bee fixed pitch to bang up instead and save the 400 until Spring.

i also popped 3 servos the other night. it seemed that i lost signal to the heli. it spooled up to WOT and went into the side of the house and then hit the ground still stuck in WOT. i had to unplug the battery to get it to stop. Called horizon to ask what voltage to change the transmitter batteries at and they said 4.8 while the book says 4.3. My radio was at 5.3! i thought that the spectrum receivers had a built in fail safe???
Anyways i rebuild three servos... they all worked fine, but on was slightly slower so i pulled the tail servo and put a dsp75 in the tail. all is well now, running the gyro in digital mode seems to help. i will be upgrading the servos soon, but i dont the extra cash right now either.
What servos is everyone reccomending?

yes, please - what servo's should i go for to replace the 3 with? - i assume a dsp75 in the tail (hope it works upside down and backwards since the tail rotor will be on the left side)
you know, i just remember that i got 3 with the dx7 - they're in the hdx450, but they could come back out easily enough - too much heavy cnc and metal this and that, that it can't pick up the video camera, much less the still camera - i wonder if anybody would still buy it with the servos missing

I also have replace the gears in 3 servos, this is the 2nd time around. It is has been the same gear in each servo, so the gear replacement packs only work for 1 piece. Im actually going to experiment with a few different types of servos and see what happens.

No offense but the DSP 75's are junk. If you drive over a bump on the way home from buying then, they strip. I have like 7 of them sitting around. All failed from strikes that never even bent a main shaft. I just built one of those "other" helis and i used the DS285 plastic gears and I went down in flames yesterday and the servos are fine. I will be putting DS285's from JR on it next week so i can sell the 400.

Hello,
I am new to the hobby too, (3 weeks). I flew my 400 for the first time and have never flow an CP heli before a couple weeks ago. I was in the garage at night with plenty of room and was able to trim everything during flight and was doing good with hovering. Then I decided to fly forward slowly out of the garage and didn't know that because of the "open air" it would have more lift. It lifted about 100 feet and it was dark so I lost it. After hearing the crash and replacing all kinds of parts, I flew my third flight this morning and its perfect again. I love it!
I replaced my servos lastnight with the JR DS285's. I wasn't sure what to go with either, but after reading a little, decided if Im going to pay 60 to 80 bucks, I might as well go to the $100 range and get better servos. The DS285's are digital and seem to have pretty good reviews. Although a word to the wise, I didn't switch my electronics to digital. I kept it set at analog because I heard that if you run digital servos without upgrading the other electronics you could fry them. So at least I have digital servos for the future when/if I decide to upgrade the rest of the electronics.
I love the new hobby and can't wait to get better!
