There are a lot that fit your request as long as you do not crash them
. A Honey Bee King 2 can be had for $160, a Belt CP is around $200 with a brushless motor and then the Blade 400 comes with a brushless and a kick ass radio for around $400. If you are really serious get the T-Rex which comes with nothing and you must buy everything for around $800+.
All these helis are durable until you hit something! Can you fly a fixed pitch copter?

If you are looking to do autorotations I would recommend a 600/50 sized heli. I have heard 400 size helis autorotate quicker which is harder for begginners. T-Rex 600 $1500+ w/o radio.

It must be said even from a elfite brainwashed lover like myself, that if you want the best then Trex is the way to go, but they are so expensive !
Ive got the Blade 400 and think value for money wise you cant go wrong, its a well built bird with the only radio you will ever need, and you can buy it for the price of the radio gear alone !

As the others have said, get a larger one....at a bare minimum, I'd recommend the Blade 400. It has plastic parts and cheap servo's and gryo, but not bad for the price. If you want something that doesn't break all the time, the TREX 450 SE v2 is very nice with it's metal head, carbon fiber frame, metal tail, etc. You'll never have to upgrade it and it's an incredibly stable flying heli especially compared to the Blade CP!
Good luck!

it's going to be hard to find a good 3D heli for your budget if you're looking at the blade cp... If you want something under $300 then the esky belt cp is going to be your best bet. there's also the black hawk 450. After that you're into the price of a blade 400.

Get a simulator! They are pretty cheap to crash

When I was learning on the CP Pro I easily spent more in spare parts than the helicopter was. Don't know the exact cost and don't want to know. I agree with Skarn that a simulator is a good trainer. I crashed numerous times and didn't have to spend a thing on parts.

I agree the sim is a great way tyo cost free crash, but its not the same as the real thing but a great learning tool.
Besides, i like crashing in a weird way......... when i strip it apart and rebuild i get a better understanding of its functions and find this one of the best learning tools of them all, if you dont understand how it works how are you going to master it ?

It depends. I think there is one for free. Then there are some that come with out a transmitter and some that come with transmitters. My quess is around $0-250. Some are also more realistic for helicopters and some that are close, but not the same thing as flying a real RC helicopter.
These are the sims in the magazine Radio Controlled Helicopters:
Aerofly Professional deluxe www.aerofly.com
Hanger 9 FSone www.fsone.com
Phoenix R/C Flight Simulator www.phoenixsim.com
Greatplanes Realflight www.realflight.com
MRC Reflex XTR www.reflex-sim.com

Im using Clear view ($40). I found a free E-sky simulator with a USB transmitter, discarded the software and downloaded Clear view. It's not quite as nice as Hangar9's but there are downloadable models.

I myself am looking for a nice lowish price 3d capable copter. I'm still weighing the cost vs college vs future free-time aspect though.
