I would highly recommend the good old trusty Futaba GY401...it's been around for a long time, and is well proven, reliable, and there's tons of info available for it....
It's not the cheapest gyro, nor the most expensive....but it sounds like it would suit your needs perfectly, since you aren't doing any hard 3D stuff.
