mcx2 wobble/vibration ?
 

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and new to flying. We bought an mcx2 and an msr about two weeks ago. The msr had a bad 5 in 1 board and tail motor right from the get go but Horizon Hobby Has replaced both. Great service there.

The mcx2 has been great fun and my 10 year old is also learning on it. Naturally since it was our first we had some crashes as expected. After a week it developed a slight wobble and tail vibration. Based on research I repalced the following parts one by one. Upper and lower blades and fly bar. The vibration and a little wobble at the hover is still there. The actual flying is only effected minimmaly. I want to ask all you experienced flyers what would be next to check. The shaft? it certainly does not look bent but I may not know what I'm looking for.

Any suggestions?
I want to take this as an opportunity to learn as well as make the repairs so I can move up to bigger and better. Have not really started with the msr yet, awaiting the tail boom and motor from Horizon any day know.

I got to the bottom of waht I think was/is causing the problem. I did a maintenance check of the heli a few days ago and was tightening some loose screws on the blades etc. I found a pretty loose screw and snuged it up. This was the outer retaining collar screw just below the swash plate. Today I backed it off and loosened it and the vibration and handeling was 99% better.

So the question is, just how tight or loose is this retaining screw supposed to be? When I tightened it up why did that cause wobble and vibration. For a heli that is geared for beginners I wish they would inlcude some maintenace tips and what should be tight and what should have some play etc.

Wjhat exactly does this retainer do, and how tight or loose should it be? Is it just like a set screw to keep the retainer ring in place with very little force on the screw?

You should not have loosened the retaining screw. The slight wobble went away beacause the main and or inner shaft is bent. All you did was give the shaft a little room to "play" and not be snug the way it should be. When the shafts rotate, loosening the screw just allowed a small amount of movement between the retaining gear and the shafts, which will temporarily "counteract" the vibration. If you keep it this way, you will eventually cause more damage. Trust me, I have a lot of experience with CX's, and you definitely have a slightly bent inner or outer shaft. Replace the shafts, retighten the retaining screw, and I guarantee you the heli will fly properly. Unless of course the replacement shafts get bent in installation, etc. Good Luck and Happy Flying !!
