When is the power too low on the TX?

When should I switch out the batteries on my TX? Green/Yellow/Red? Can I let it go all the way down?

Well most guys would probably say Im crazy but I usually run mine until that last green light goes out. After that Im always worried and cant have fun flying.

charcoaldabs,

I agree with Psikelly, to a point. Going to the last green light is okay if your fly, hovering or crashing, say within about 40 or 50 feet.

If you go beyond that range, you may be asking for trouble. Play it safe and keep fresh batteries in the TX.

You may consider rechargable batteries, most of the flyers do. It's less expensive in the long run.

I purchased an Energizer rechargable system, Inital cost 19 dollars, comes with charger and 4 double A, 2500 mAh batterys. Yep, not enough batteries. 10 bucks more for an addition 4 batteries. Pays for itself in just a few months.

Oh yah , I forgot to mention that I only hover right now and its only 5 feet away from me. If I was actually flying then Id shut her down with 2 green lights left for sure.

I let mine tick down into the yellow often....and once ran it down to the red. I say once because when I plugged my CP in it went nuts and raced across my hobby table and chopped my Tx antennae in half (problem solved with charged batteries). I also like to run new cars of mine out of gas too so I know how far I can push it so you may want to disregard my perspective.;)

Oh wow, I didn't realize that the aircraft starts glitching at low power. Oh man, and to think I was running that thing down today. I'm a bike to a cvs tomorrow and pick up some batteries, or a rechargeable station thing. Great advice guys, thanks.

Go with the recharables, like choppersrule said, they'll pay for themselves quickly. And you can get a bunch of chargers that will charge the batterys in 15 to 30 minutes. So a full set will only take an hour max. Not to shabby.

Yea I got the Energizer 2500mah rechargeable batteries. It takes over eight hours to charge... half the batteries. I was down all day yesterday due to lack of batteries, but hopefully this will be useful. I'll look into peak chargers/fast chargers.

charcoaldabs,

I got my charger and batteries at Menards. 4 or 5 treads up is a picture of it.
Its labeled as a 15 minute fast charger and by golly it does charge them in 15 minutes, also this little gem has a cool fan built into it, $19.95.
