need help with CPP problem
Beginner learning to fly. Mostly just hovering a few feet off the ground. I recently put an alien gyro and brushless 370 motor in and have not had much luck since. The heli seems fine in hover most of the time, but every now and then it goes into a hard counter clockwise rotation that full right rudder won't stop. It happens mostly when I'm adding pitch to gain altitude, or sometimes it happens when a light gust of wind causes me to make a corrections. I was hovering fine with the stock brushed motor. It has a brand new tail motor due to comments from an earlier post. I no longer think the tail motor is the problem. I have crashed or nearly crashed almost every time I fly it. Mostly because when it rotates into a nose in position I don't have the skills to fly it and quickly get out of control if the rudder won't bring the tail back in. I suspect some sort of issue with the gyro? or possibly some sort of binding causing severe torque?? I really don't know much about helis and could use some help here. I trashed a couple pair of blades and finally broke the head today. I'll get replacement head this week. I decided during down time, it was time to ask the experts what might be wrong and how to troubleshoot it before I get too frustrated and give up. I really loved flying the thing the first two months and got pretty good at hovering, but now it's no longer fun. I'm wondering it they are worth the headache. Any help would be appreciated....Thanks in advance.....

RE: need help with CPP problem
you might try testing the stock gyro to see if your alien gyro is causing problems. if it still flies funny, you may have too much pitch.
as a last resort, you may want to upgrade the tail. many ppl who have a brushless main motor also have either direct drive or dual motor tails to help cope with the rotor-torque a brushless main motor can produce. don't give up yet. if all else fails go back to the stock setup and have fun flying it for a while. |
RE: need help with CPP problem
I just got my CP pro for Christmas (new to helis). I went to the hobby store to get a HH gyro and my buddy there talked me out of it. He told me it would take longer to learn to fly but I would be a better pilot learning to control the rudder with out even thinking. I think he was right. I now hover and noticed I keep the nose centered with out thinking. Now if I can learn to fly around I will be happy.
Good luck and keep at it. Relax and hve fun. |

grubs4flyn,
read the last several pages of the official bcpp tread: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_45...page_35/tm.htm maybe this can offer you some encouragement. I was about where you are at starting to think this is just not fun anymore.... then I got my heli dialed in right and it was like a whole new RC. I had damaged parts from all of my learning of hovering and didnt realized how sensitive each aspect of the setup on these things can be. they are sturdy but if your learning curve is even close to as bad as mine was you have put a pretty good whoppin on your heli. as far as your gyro probs: if you suspect binding look for it everywhere... free up your swash from the servo's and move each and every thing by hand to feel for any binding....I made the mistake off overtightening the screw on the mixer arms before and it made mine fly like junk. Also it sounds like possible radio interference.... check your wire routing to keep power wires away from servo wires. try disconnecting the gyro and using stock for a test to determine if it is definately the gyro or gyro settings. go through your gyro setup exactly as the manual says and start with 40-50% gain and adjust as high as possible without getting any twichy behaviour..... try some tests also with the main motor unplugged. just giving throttle and rudder inputs and observe...maybe something will reveal itself... |

lanny2003,
I just got my CP pro for Christmas (new to helis). I just install a HH gyro a few days ago and just had my first fly outside with it today. I absolutely recomend getting one. I could spend so much more time flying and focusing on pushing my boundries a little than before. I used to have to either adjust rud. trim several times throughout a battery or constantly fly with some rudder input from me to hold the nose...also my tail did not hold position well on bursts of full throttle at all. Dont get me wrong I am much more comfy with the throt and rudder from learning with the stock setup but I am now having much more fun flying; since I am spending much less effort constantly chasing the tail and constantly having to use more and more right rudder as the battery losses charge. I have one less thing to constantly focus on freeing my brain to put more effort on all the other stuff. The DD tail and HH gyro made my bcpp a whole new machine and a much much more fun one:) |
