A cool carrying case for the CX

1 Attachment(s)
I found this while searching eBay. It's a camera accessory case which was intended to be used for a tripod or other similar accessory. It's the Amvona Case 1026, and it is quite high quality for the price, with pre-glued foam, shoulder strap and moveable dividers.

These go on auction every day. There is a buy it now auction for $79 (+ $24 shipping), but if you bid on the daily auction you can get a great deal. I payed about $24 (plus shipping).

I have space for my transmitter, as shown in the attached pictures, but I have to unscrew the antenna. Furthermore, I had to remove the 1/2" plastic stub from the top of the transmitter, where the antenna goes. That being done, the transmitter fits perfectly. Because of the "rubber duck" antenna on the CX2 transmitter, I don't think that one can be made to fit. I have Jamie's Mod1 carbon fiber boom, and the heli fits perfectly in the case. I think the stock CX body is slightly longer, but there should be room for it. Neall

That's a very nice case!

I'm using a plastic tool box for my CX2. I lined the bottom with 'ground pad' foam (found in sporting goods stores) and hot glued similar material to make compartments for the batteries, charger, and transmitter.

Works for me! :D

Don, You'd posted that pic sometime back and that's what inspired me. I have a separate little single-tray tackle box that has my batteries, tools, chargers, and of course, spare blades. I have room in my case... I may just add some compartments for batteries, etc. Thanks for your inspiration. Neall

Oops!

I guess what they say is true... The second thing to go is the MEMORY, and I can't remember the first! [X(]

I got this heli tote from wingtote. Its really nice, and has hard shell inserts in the cordura case on all sides, plus top and bottom. I don't hink it would provide as much protection as that camera case, however.

Dave,
Several guys in my club have the wing tote bag and it's very cool indeed. It was probably my backup plan, in the event I couldn't find a smaller aluminum box. The wing tote fits the CP nicely, but in my case, it's huge for a CX. I could pack a Volkswagen in there along with my CX. I also looked at that cool aluminum T-Rex case made by Align. Again, same problem... it was really big, and I'd have to redo the foam. Maybe someday I'll just have to buy that case, with a T-Rex in it :) Neall

here is another idea for a case that got by me for the longest time i looked for a case for weeks and found nothing that was going to work and not put a big hole in my pocket
i used the foam from the box but had to cut it a bit to fit in the Duffle bag from walmart for $9.00
it looks good and i can take anything that came with it and some extras (parts batt ext) with me when i want to take it out (hope i can get the picture in)
just had to get it in here for any one looking like i was for a way to take this little toy out!

Shemp, very cool. I had actually considered using the stock heli styrofoam and putting inside a duffle or gym bag. However, I came to realize that after installing my tail boom and extended upper/lower main shafts, my CX wouldn't fit into the original styrofoam without major surgery to the foam. For those whose CX/2 still fits (or nearly fits) in the stock packing styrofoam, your solution rocks. Neall

i see some of you changed the tail boom out can any one tell me just what it will do for the heli! i am going to order a Night Ranger 3D XL or the DRAGONFLY 60 not sure but if the tails not going to make a big diff i think i will keep the stock body!
thanks
Michael

Shemp, as far as the tail boom: More aerodynamic, meaning less interference with the airflow from the blades. This means better handling. Also, a bit lighter, more attractive, more durable (no plastic rear body to break) and it's a lot easier to install the battery because the rear body is gone and you have full access to the battery holder. Shemp, the Night Ranger 3D XL and the Dragonfly 60 are both high performance, collective pitch helis for advanced fliers. Both already have tail booms, factory installed.

thanks that what I wanted to know about the cx and cx2 I will be buying the boom for my little helis thanks Neall
as for the Dragonfly 60 I just put in a order for one I new it had a tale boom thanks but as you new what I was talking about can you or any one tell me if the battery from venom will fit it or what and wear can I get a good battery for it and if it safe to go with a longer life one like a 1800 mah LIPOLY! and with that i have done some looking how is it i don't see anything about the use of a Tether for power so you can learn without the use of the battery exept for ballest to to me it sound like a good way to learn and not wait a hour to fly again for 10 min
thanks all

those are some good ideas guys. my heli just got a new bruise on the canopy during transportation to santa cruz last weekend. lately i've been needing a portable hanger; time to get to work.

Which duffel bag did you get?

28 inch at Wal Mart. I am beginning to think it may be a little too large. Haven't really done anything with it yet.

To big as in length? height? width?

r.lenhart2 03-12-2007 05:00 PM

RE: A cool carrying case for the CX

Guess it would depend on how you look at the bag. 28" may be too wide. It would probably be better with 24".

Would it be possible to get to CX's in the bag?

RE: A cool carrying case for the CX

It might be. Since I only have one I really don't have any way to test.

the bag inside is about 3/4 of a inch smaller then the foam that the heli came in it is vary hard to get it in could have trimed it a bit more but it works fine i will get the tape and check it in the morning as i am not at home!

I don't know if any one is still reading this thread, but I thought I would share another idea for a portable hanger. Its pretty compact and sturdy.

Some may think it is a real hassle to have to remove the blades and flybar for the compact fit, but it only takes me a minute or two and I only have to do it when I'm transporting it from the office on weekends to go home or the other way around.

Besides, it was the best I could do with stuff laying around the garage. I didn't want to go out a spend alot of money on a huge case.

It was a old computer case I had picked up as a mark down item from the local Office Depot for around $15.00. I ripped the insides out of and lined the lid with foam I had laying around, the sides were padded already. I can get quite alot of stuff in a fairly small package. Batteries, chargers, TX, blades, tools, etc..

Anyway, it may give you guys some ideas for your own portable hanger. I'm sure Truglodite wouldn't have minded the blade removal effort for his trip to Santa Cruz instead of a few bumps and brusies.

Good luck on your own designs.

ps: haven't tried this picture stuff before, hope it works.

My wife has my digital camera so I will have to post a pic with it full later. I picked this up at Home Depot for $15, It holds 2 CX2s, 2 transmitters, 2 chargers and all the spares you will ever need, although I did cannibalize my second CX2. The two compartments on top hold spare batteries, tools and small parts while the tool tray inside holds longer parts suck as booms, flybars, skids and so on.
