Autorotation Set up
I have a CPP and I bent the main shaft so I decided to go with the CNC gear and shaft . The gear is the type with the autorotation set up on it and I was wondering if there is anything special that needs to be done in order to install this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Autorotation Set up
this should be all the info you need. I don't think there is an actual metal main gear. I think it is just plastic with a 1 way bearing in it, but I guess there might be

RE: Autorotation Set up
Dcs, I am not too sure if the blades are large enough to do an auto rotation. I know that on the larger birds because of the rotor span it is done but I think you may find that the blades are too small and the heli is too light.

RE: Autorotation Set up
agreed. not enough enertia. But one thing you should do is keep some tri flow on that one way bearing. They tend to lock up after awhile if you don't

RE: Autorotation Set up
You might also try the plasti-blades for auto's because they are alot more weight than the stock blades... might provide more inertia so it maybe could work. If you end up doing that, let the rest of us know how it worked out =)
The stock blades are 10-11g each and the plasti-blades are 17 to 18g each |
RE: Autorotation Set up
I actually have the carbon fiber blades on it now. Do I need to change blades?

RE: Autorotation Set up
you could just try it out and see how well they do. The CF blades don't have as much weight as the plasti-blades but they might work for auto's... I've never tried it. I would just leave enough room so that if they don't work you can pull out of it.

RE: Autorotation Set up
If I read your initial post correctly, you were after a CNC part and the auto bearing is simply a "plus." Is that right? Since electrics don't quit, and since very small helis like this don't have much energy in the blades an auto is really not something that most would consider important. If you want to do autos, which are a beautiful move, get at least a .50 class heli, either glow or electric and don't worry about a situation which will never present itself.
