How do you repalce the tail support???

I have a Blade CP and broke the vertical tail support. I have the replacement part, but can't get the old one out. Is there a trick? Is it glued in. Please help. Thanks

The original tail support rod is glued in. If it broke off right at the base then you'll have to drill it out with a dremel or very carefully with a small bit on a drill. If there is exposed rod that you can grip with pliers you can try applying a CA glue solvent and then twist it free.

Acetone will work also........ put some on a q tip and hold the tail upside down and lightly swab a little at the joint. wipe any excess off the surrounding plastic........... also you can try using heat.....a hair dryer usually works ok for loosening up things. then like xeos posted....twist it out gently.

This is what I do because it seems to be suprisingly very robust. Just take a small drill bit and drill a hole between the tail motor mount and the gear drive hole. Use fuel tubing to keep it in place. It so far has not let me down - and I've bent that thing in every direction doing repairs on the head. If you have a training gear set-you can just use those rods. The combined extra rod and fuel tubing I got from that training set have really saved me money in the long run. O, and if you're insane like kyle- then you can leave it long on both ends so you can hover inverted with the head touching the floor.

Here's a pic:

jwfoster4,

When you've got the tail skid replaced or relocated, put a small plastic bead on the tail rod. Just drill it the same diameter of the rod, about half way through and CA/glue the bead to the skid. Works great, it doesn't get stuck in carpeting, or grass and doesn't bend on concrete. It just slides across everything.. You could use a electrical wire nut too, if you don't have a plastic bead. I got the bead from a childs necklace.

I would put a bead on mine, but the st. augustine grass at my house is so thick in the summer, that even a bead would not help much-something bigger would though, like training gear ball-but that would look wierd. I usually can lift off and land straight enough to not have a problem anyway.

I use a small length of silicone fuel tubing on the tail support. Cut a piece longer than the tail support - slide it up onto the flared and of the tail support to hold it in place. Then cut the tubing about 1/8 to 1/4" longer than the tail support so it sits on the soft tubing.
I found this very helpful when I was first learning to hover. It gives a little cushion and bounce when you set it down on a hard surface. It also keeps it from skittering over hard surfaces when you lift off.
