Blade CX Upgrades??
I bought a Blade cx a few months ago. I've had to change the flybar and blades because of blade strikes several times. I'm considering purchasing an upgrade. I've visited web sites that have videos that show blades "smacking" against a furniture leg. Are these upgrades as good as advertised?? almost indestructible??? Any compromise in performance??

RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
You can do a "vortex swap"
Where you change the eflight grips and blades for vortex folding blades You can change innershaft to a vortex shaft which increases distance between lower and upper blades which eliminates "blade clack" "indestructible" ...........no.........but it increases your chances lol |
RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
I run the Xtreme blades and grips and they are almost indestructible. So far the only thing that has broken an Xtreme blade is my 3 year old and a silk plant! Other than that....can't seem to break the damn things. Money very well spent.

RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
Xtreem blades!!! OMG! I just installed a set and my heli has never flowen better. Sorry, I'm a little geeked up but after chasing TBE arround for most of 3 weeks here, and now it is 99% gone I couldn't be happier!! I need to do some more adjusting to level the swash ( again ) and perhaps check the 3 in 1 pot, but I was so happy I burned up my battery flying around my way to small living room.

RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
The Vortex grips are better from a performance standpoint. They are much lighter allowing the motor to spool up quicker. The problem is that you must do one of two things to use the vortex blade grips with the Xtreme folding blades:
Run the vortex grips with a vortex swashplate and lower rotor housing or buy the blade grip kit from "Exxtreme" for $32 which is basicalling vortex grips with a different link (white) that allows you to keep the Eflite aluminum swashplate and lower rotar. The Xtreme blades are almost industructable. I have 2 CX2s, one with the Xtreme CNC grips and one with the plastic Vortex grips. Hands down the lower rotating mass handles better. |
RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
By the way, go to Boomtownhobbies.com for everything. Better yet, call Jamie because he has lots of stuff that isn't listed on his website.
Also...MUST...buy his carbon fiber boom kit and industructable landing skids. Very light, coolk looking, and indestructable! |

RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
Yep I am running xtreme blades, and they are holding up great.

RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
There is alot of talk about Xtreme blades and grips, but whats the weight difference between the Xtreme set, and say an E-Flite aluminium rotor blade head, and a set of standard plastic Blades??
|
RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
They are definately heavier, that's why they last. However , if you are tired of replacing stock blades everytime you hit something, forlding blades are the ticket. There are several blades that will work, however, the Xtreme blades are the most durable.

RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
Do you have a good link to the CX2 standard part weights?
|
RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
Also, who has a link to a bullet proof way to adjust the gain vs. proportional on 3 in 1?
|
RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
Note: Its better to adjust proprtional first.
Adjusting the proportional 1. Tape your heli to a upside down fresbie or put it on a very smooth surface or table. 2. Center the proportinal knob. 3. Plug in the battery. 4. Slight throttle up, take note on direction your heli yaw/turns. 5. Unplug battery. 6. Counter adjust for its yaw/turn. Adjusting gain. 1. Turn it all the way down. 2. Slightly adjust it till the tail stops shaking while in a hover. 3. Then back it up just a tad bit (1mm or less). Note: This can be done with the battery in. RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
I have 2 CX2 versions:
1st version - all Xtreme - Xtreme tail boom, skids, canopy, CNC blade grips, Upper extended rotor, Xtreme blades, and the 180 stock motors, all eFlite aluminum except for the upper rotor hub, vortex fly bar 2nd version - all eFlite aluminum, stock front canopy, vortex plastic grips, Xtreme blades, Boomtown tail boom and unbreakable skids, stock OEM motors (much more agile and quick) Both fly very well and hover like champs. The swash plate is level with the control rods in the 3rd position. There is absolutely no TBE. I have even move the electronics around have equal weight distribution left to right. However, when I want aggressive forward flight, they both fly a bit sideways and to the left. It looks like they both lean down and to the left when I apply forward elevator. However, I can get them to fly perfectly straight and level with the nose pointing straight if I also apply a little aileron to the right. Is this normal because of the way the swash plate is set up of can I adjust some of this out with either the proportional mix or gain? |
RE: Blade CX Upgrades??
Hi Coyote64,
I'm also in the UK, can you please tell me were you got your Vortex Inner Shaft and Folding Blades from as I'm after some myself. Thanks. |

Go to Exxtreme Upgrade - www.bladecx2.com to get only the blade grip set, not the whole setup with the shafts , etc. Some say these are only rebranded parts. However the vortex ball link on the blade grip is a different size then the one on the aluminum eFlite swash plate. Therfore, you have to buy his setup once becasue he makes his own link (pictured in white on his website) and will not sell it separetely. Once you have this, you can just buy Vortex parts as replacements. The grip kit he sells cost about $32 US. However, the parts that make up this grip kit cost under $10 US but you can't buy the link. BoomtownHobbies.com has all the vortex parts that you will need except the link that allows you to use the aluminum eflite swashplate. If you don't care about keeping the eflite swash plate, you can purchase all the parts from Boomtown including a Vortex swash plate and not have any need for the Exxtremme stuff. He also has lots of other tings for your CX as well including the best tail boom on the market. |
