Align blades on B400
 

I could swear I read on there someone using TRex blades on a B400. I picked up a pair at the LHS last night but, when I tried to put them on there was quite a bit of slack in the grips. I took off the ends thinking they are a little thickier but, the holes dont line up.

Has anyone used the Align blades on a B400 and if so what did you do to get them to fit in without the slack? Drill out new holes?

I think the easiest way is to either use a small washer on each side or use the root from a set of B400 blades.

I have a friend that flies them - they work!

I'm using the Align yellow CF blades on mine and they work great. I just added one washer on each side of the blade to shim it up and its very smooth.Simple hardware store washers too. Went to Ace and found some small metric washers that fit and then roughed up the blades around the holes and CA'd the washers directly to the blade. Works like a champ!!!!

Brooks, I'm mystified - mostly because I don't have a Trex or B400. You talked about using the Root of the B400 blades. would you please explain. And here's my reason for asking.
I was at a local sales and swap meet for RC stuff. My favorite LHS was there and one of the helicopter guys was demonstrating a B400 - but the blades were wrong. I asked and he was using the Align Fiber blade with an internal CF spar for stiffness. The flier liked the blades. Another more aggressive flier from the same shop didn't care for them. Being Fiber, they are more durable than woodies but they don't transmit shock into the helicopter like a CP blade does. I asked Michael to include a couple of sets in our package to the guys in Iraq. Then I found that they really don't fit the B400 well. I was afraid I messed up, but it sounds like the work around is straight forward using washers but is using the root of one blade type to mount another blade type something a soldier in Iraq can do?

The more information that I can send to Kenn before the package arrives the better use the guys will get from the parts. And if you would send it to my personal email so I don't lose it (this thread is HUGE!!) that would help me a lot.

Have you tried drilling through the align blades and making the plastic piece from the B400 woodies fit? I''m curious to see if that would damage the aligh blades.

I bought a few sets of generic woodies that are designed for the rex. The blades are exactly the same thickness all the way along, where as the B400 blades have the plastic bits screwed on at the root to make them thicker. I simply removed this form an old damaged set of blade and sliced off the bits that required an extra hole in the blade for the mounting screw, then just a drop of CA toward the tip end of the spacer when sitting them on the new blades and all is good.

I''m still using the stock woodies only.
I hit things often and would rather have them break then something else.[:o]
I''ve heard it done as SeaComms explained or you could use some thin plastic to fashion your own shims.

I’ve used Align 315 and 325 carbons on my B400 and they work well. Just dug around in my pile of nuts and bolts until I found 2 of the same diameter nylon washers that fit. Seems to spin smother. Although I think the B400 woodies have more lift. The 315’s are extremely stable in a low hover. On another note, the trex 450 v1 feathering shaft dampener and the tail shaft bearings are also a cross match. You can’t get (or I haven’t found) those parts specifically for the B400.

I have also been using the Align CF blades on my Blade 400 and it made a great deal of improvement in the hovering characteristics of the bird. It has a stiffer feel which I like and it seems more responsive. I just had to use a washer for a shim and it went on great. I highly recomend this mod.
