Blade 400 and different canopy, how to???

is there a way to put a rex 450 canopy on the b400? or any other model canopy. I understand this may cause a stir, but I am not happy with the flimsy canopy. I need something to do while the radio is out on the recall. (darn cabin fever)

YES! And it looks good as well. Long story short… Only one mod needed. Remove the stock canopy rod. Take the 2 screws out of the anti rotation bar for the swash plate located just in front of the gyro and ever so slightly enlarge the hole to accept the stock canopy rod. Fits with out any mod to the canopy it self.

There are several approaches you can take to adding the Rex450 canopy to the blade. I choose NOT to modify the heli at all but trimmed up the canopy itself.

Basically, Just trimmed it up (yes, you can still see pen marks) cut new holes for the grommets and just repositioned them. This enabled me to use the stock carbon canopy rod in the stock location with no mods to the heli at all. Much, much more room for batteries now.

Don't worry about that... This hobby is about having fun, not who's flying what and mix-matching parts. Anybody that would have a problem, needs to find another hobby ! ;):D

A good choice to use one of the Align canopies. If you go with a fiberglass one it will offer you some better protection also in case of a crash to the battery. I've got 5 crashes on my fiberglass one and 3 being hardcore from a good distance up. I'am still in a learning curve practicing some 3-D maneuvers so I just keep using the same one even though she's not that pretty any more... LMAO... :D Just wipe off the mud and grass, clean er' up, slap a few stickers to hide the horrid mess and your good to go for another round. I'am hoping to get 9-lives outta her, but we'll see... :) Being fiberglass will also enable ya to fix it up also if you have a bit of experience with the glass/resin.

You can find them anywhere from $15.00-$20.00 and worth the investment if you don't mind the few more grams from the lighter plastic versions that they also offer as you saw in AdrianNKY's picture of his nice bird...;)

Hopefully you'll get your TX returned soon, I hate to see another fellow pilot having "down-time". ;)

Cheers,

~ Jeff

I put T-rex 600 canopy mounts on mine. I hated fighting the stock rod mount, much easier now. They come with a stud instead of a screw mount that the 450 mounts have. I put them in the stock location but I think that if they replace the anti-rotation bracket screws that they're the right location for a standard T-rex canopy.

I found some Nozes (yep, that's the name) on Sleazebay pretty cheap. I liked the look, they're lightweight and give me more room than the stock canopy. Grommets from the hardware store for .20 ea. and I'm in business.

Never mind the training wheels, old picture. I've got all kinds of non Eflite stuff on mine now. If you look close you can see the ball end on the mount (fully enclosed when the grommet is installed)

These canopys are for 400-450 size helis. YOU do have to drill the hole in fiber glass and add the grommets per your heli to hold it on. I took a Dremel in high speed and punched the holes for the grommet. Then I had to trim a bit under the heli for the canopy to come back where I wanted it. They sell them here at EHOBBY. $20.00 for the first one and $10.00 for the second one.
These are both Blade 400's.

Well you want glass or plastic? check around here
http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet...3dx-450/Detail
What I did was use a rex overcoat, wife's term, and the standoffs
http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet...450-CNC/Detail
Screw into the wholes where the anti-rotation braclet is help.
Install the battery, the biggest one you have, slide on the canopy, mark the wholes, drill, install grouments and done deal.
The standoff come in varied lengths and they carry both glass (about $13) and plastic overcoats, be creative.
However after saying all that I think the Mini Titan looks more like a sport's coat.

I think this is more like a tuxedo.
