Giving up on E-flight
Ithink Im giving up on eflite. Ibought the cx3 and the 3 in 1 controller failed. Just got the new one in the mail along with the EXxtreme core kit from Sonny. Installed both and the heli just spins like mad to the right. No trim adjustment will fix it. Also adjusted the pot on the 3 in one &it just makes it spin hard to the left. There doesn't seem to be any stable middle point to allow a hover without full rudder. Idouble checked everyting in the core installation - and still noithing. Im assuming the HH gyro is bad in the new 3 in 1. Im not gona bother sending it back - 2 bad ones in a row make me think they make junk! The blade 400 arrived in the mail today - Iwas excited but I dont even feel like opening it. Ishould have bought a trex.
On top of that Ihad to quit smoking so Im really on edge lately - I'll probably stomp on the cx3 when Iget home! |

RE: Giving up on E-flight
I had problems with the CX 2 spinning, and I noticed that the pot adjustment was very very fragile. I could turn it so much to the left, but as soon as I passed the position of no return, it would start spinning like crazy. I would bring back just a touch and it was fine. Except that on my transmitter, the trim is all the way to the left, and it still spins slightly and I have to hold the stick to compensate. I got used to it.
I purchased a CP Pro 2 over a month ago, and it was DOA. It actually smoked when I plugged the battery. I sent it back and HH got it on May 7th. On last check with them, the technician was supposed to continue working on it last saturday. Hopefully the heli is in the mail... and I won't crash it on the first flight out (the delay has given me a chance to crash it on my RealFlight slimulator lots of time). I do like my CX2 and am getting very daring turning around the corner and door frames around my house. Until I hit something, then calm down for a while. You should get a simulator to take your smoking frustrations on rather than the heli. Any way, good luck, and all the best on your new non-smoking venture... |
RE: Giving up on E-flight
Ifyou replaced the 3 in 1 you may of gotten the plugs mixed up and or one or more of the motors are plugged in wrong. If you have them plugged in wrong it could cause the heli to spin out of control because the gyro is trying to correct for the motors turning the wrong direction.

RE: Giving up on E-flight
Thanks for the reply's everybody - Jstern You're a genuis!
Iactually thought of the reversed motors &switched them and it wanted to push downward. Iremembered what color (red) was down on the bottom motor plug on the 3 in 1. But until Iread your message Idid not try to switch the motors AND the polarity. In other words red wire is still down on the lower plug outlet but on the other motor. To put it in other words it flies perfect now! Thanks to everybody here. tankmandan - thanks for the message - Itried to reply but the send button was not visible - Iwill figure that out *&get it working but thanks for the cooling off advice &Iam flying with a simulator so I have been getting some time flying the single blades. Iwas just grumpy today because I spent alot of time getting it build &it wouldn't fly right. I'd buy you all a beer if Icould! Now Ican open my new blade 400 (still in box right next to me) and be happy about it. Itold the I'll never buy a new helicoptor while the old ones aren't flying. She's been awesome - she said if they make me happy - Buy every god damn one they make! You know how it is - you can't be excited about a new heli while one is sitting there as a bookend Ok ...no Igot some manual reading to do |

Hello,
Let me tell you a short story. This is not opinion, but fact. At the end of this letter you will se emy credit sas to what helicopters and plane I own. My friend got as a noob for his first heli a CX3 a month ago. He tried and tried to fly it without success. So I went over there and with my two years of experiece I could barely handle itas it had deep problems. He had gone inside and tried to make adjusts so I had to take the heli down 100% soI would know it was right. When done it would not fly worth crap. He took it back to the hobby shop where he bought and brought home another brand new one n the factory box. It to he said did not seem right. So again I went over and checked it out but...........I took my CX2 to let him try to fly that. While I looked at the second new CX3 it had all ofthe same problems you have and HE was flying my CX2 around the house. IMPORTANT: He was ready to give up as you are , but after flying my CX2 (stock) he said; I can fly! So the next day he took the second CX3 back to the hobby shop and DEMANDED a CX2. Since then he has been a happy camper AND he bought a G4.5 simulator a real must in this hobby. Now I will sharea secret about adjusting the pots. EACH TIME you do that you do not want to adjust the gyro but rather the proportional and HINT each time you make the small adjustment the battery MUSTBEOFF then reconnected each time you do that. If not your adjustments won't register. If you want to try one last time, disconnet the battery and take both pots and set them in the middle and go from there but again that is good for the gyro, in the middle then make sure all trims are centered per your book turn the pot to stop to nose drift. Go slow it takes time and you only tuen the pot 1/32 inch per time(small adjustments)! If you cannotget this work, call HH and tell them how UNSATISFIED YOU ARE AND DEMAND A CX2 as a replacement and be sure to mention you just got your Blade 400. Now re the Blade 400. It is a great starter heli and the transmitter is just tops, it is a great valueBUT it is not a T-Rex by any means. Now I have three Blade 400's and two T-Rex's and I will tell you that you will have to change out the servos pretty much from the start on the 400, it is their week spot. If you bump anything, they will strip and then you are rebuilding them over and over and over. Most of us moved to Hitec or JR servos which start at $120.00, Iused the Hitec 65 with metal gears. I am telling you this so you wont be disappointed later. Again Ihave three of them fly the living crap out of them and they perform well ....but they are not a Trex 450 forsure. Go look at the prices of T-Rex 450, then add another $200.00 for them to build it for you, then add and another $200.00 for a radio. When you look at the total price package difference you will have sticker shock BUT if you have the funds then go with the T-Rex from the get go. If not the Blade 400 is a great heli in its own right. I hope some honest facts have helped and if you need more information feel free to send me a PM JPEE |

RE: Giving up on E-flight
After many years of computers as a hobby I have learned to immediately "put everything down and walk away" from problems I cannot resolve. This has saved me lots of hair among other "natural" disasters occurring as a result of ill temper. In my earlier years I would continue to repeat the same process until I was foamng at the mouth. I am now able to wait patiently until my brain figures out how to fix the problem by methodically and patiently diagnosing the problem at hand.
Interestingly, this has worked well for me as I've gotten into this hobby. Turns out I just encountered a similar problem when installing eXtreme 180's in my CX2. Since the new 180's don't have positive temperature coefficient resettable fuses, I installed them using the harnesses available from e-flite. Naturally I pluged the motors into the ESC with the polarity the same (lower plug red to bottom, upper plug red to top). Did you know that coaxials don't fly as good when both rotors are going in the same direction? Haha. Yep, you guessed it one of the harnesses switched poliarity: red wire in, black wire out. Wups. But the big thing I did was put the heli down and start cleaning off my work surface while thinking about what was wrong. All I knew was that the heli was spinning outta control. Then after settling down and with a clean work surface I started diagnosing the problem and of course immediately saw that the upper rotor was going backwards. Swapped the plug and I was ready to go! By the way, I've used e-flite's tech support and they are very good and very patient. Good products at excellent price point for beginners. Can't comment on the bigger machines...yet! Mack |

RE: Giving up on E-flight
Hi. I bought a CX3 a few months ago also, and right out of the box, the heli flew exactly as you describe, spinning wildly and also doing the "toilet bowl effect" after many hours of my adjustments to get it to fly somewhat stable. I wrecked it several times and had to buy a LOT of parts. Horizon Hobby knows about this problem and has somewhat admitted to it, as there apparently was a (large) "bad batch" that was made early on with some component that was not drilled exactly straight.... I forget the details. Anyway, they will take your CX3 back and ship you a new one at no cost. They did this for me, but it did take 4-5 weeks for the transaction. I had even replaced the plastic head with an all metal upgrade on mine, but it made very little difference in the CX3 performance. The new one they shipped me, with a plastic head, performed MUCH better than the first, but I still have to really FLY it. It won't just sit there and hover unattended like the mCX or the CX3 they show in their video.
Disappointed, I advanced to a CP Pro 2, and while I was excited to be flying my 1st "real" heli, it too had its share of problems, but I did learn to hover quite well with it. After a couple of months with it and numerous wrecks, I moved up to a TRex 450 Pro a couple of weeks ago, and it flies like a dream right out of the box... it is SO stable (if you choose to set it up that way). Of course it was designed for extreme 3D, butI havemany months to go before I even think about 3D flying. After about 20 flights with it, none with training gear (which was a MUST for the CPP2), I have no wrecks to my credit because it flies so well. I still love my mCX... it is one of the best training/orientation aids/helis made I think. And I still fly my unmodified CX3 from time to time. I think eFlight has helped a bunch of us get into this great hobby, but I think it takes a different caliber of heli to keep us in this hobby. Good luck and cheers! |
RE: Giving up on E-flight
Hey tbosco, that's why I'm thinking I will progress directly to the T-Rex 450 class heli from my CX2. There's only so much you can do with the coaxials before realizing that you need a heavier and more powerful rig to fly outside and do more than hover.
Thanks for reminding me not to go halfway! Mack |
RE: Giving up on E-flight
dear Jreitz, Do not giving up! To understand the helis fligth dynamics requests patience and passion. It is not as easy as it seems to be. when the secrets are goingbeing discovered, this hobby going becoming very fun. I learned a lot at thisforum. A thing can just tell you: TRY, TRY, TRY, TRY, TRY, TRY... ORIGINAL: jreitz99 Ithink Im giving up on eflite. Marcolima
Thanks for the encouragement. This forum has been a huge help. With the help of the experts here Iwas able to figure out my problem. ITWASME! My motors were installed in the wrong order. It was a very easy fix &I've been flying like a madman ever since. Idid post a follow up with explaining that the probelm was mine not e-flights or Sonny from flyrcrivesud. Iwanted to post an update so both of these businesses did not get any "bad press" about their parts. The parts iordered were in perfect working condition. Ijust needed to overcome the learning curve doing my tinkereing. Im getting better &the best news is I've been flying every day. Thanks to everyone for the advice, help and commoradory. p.s the blade 400 is still sitting safely in it's bed. Iplan on programming the revised "newbie"setting in it tonight &doing some hovering really soon. |
RE: Giving up on E-flight
Hey Drum,
Iremember your post about the different prices in Canada v.s the US - Ipaid $349.00 for the complete 400 package. If you ever need one , or other parts for that matter. Shoot me a message - Iwould be happy to order something &ship it up to you. I'm in Ohio just across the lake from ya! Iwould offer to send some smokes up but we both better stay away from those! Let me know - if there's something Ican save you a couple hundred bucks on - Iwould be happy to reship if you need it John |
