Blade MSR battery options?
Guys I see that e-flite offers the 150Mah battery for the MSR. In your experience is it worth the extra cost compared to the standard 120's that come with the chopper.
Also What is a good alternative to the e-flite batteries? something I could still use the stock 4 place charger for? |
RE: Blade MSR battery options?
I have the e-flite 150mAh batteries, and I definitely like them better, I get about two or so more minutes of flight time as compared with the standard batteries
I have not tried other brands on the mSR for two reasons. 1. I have not found another battery with the same connector that fits in the provided Celectra charger, and 2. The e-flite 150 battery comes with a a 'spacer sleeve' on it that adjusts the balance correctly for the extra weight of the battery. I fly to soft-shutdown every time i fly, and the 150s seem to be holding up well to that. I would estimate I have about 60 cycles on two standard and two 150s now. As I replace them, I'll go with only 150s. This mSR is fantastic. I get the most flight time and the least repair time from my mSR.
|

I have 2 120's and 2 150's. The 150's definately allow a good bit more flight time and make it easier to bring the heli down when it runs out of juice.

RE: Blade MSR battery options?
Only thing I can add beyond what was already mentioned, is that the 150 does change the flight characteristics slightly. In slow flight or hover, no difference, but once you get into doing fast turns, that little extra weight seems to cause it to over rotate sometimes, and it also carries through the turn a little further. I'm sure all of this is just me being accustomed to the standard battery, and I can learn to fly the 150 differently. Switching back and forth from the 120s to the 150s messes with you a little though.
That said, I get 6 min form the 120s, and 9 min from the 150. |

I have 4 120's and a 150, I like the 150 better, and will be getting more

I have also tried the zippy flight max 138mAh from hobbyking for like 2 bucks each, bought 4 of them and can say power output wise they feel the same as the oem e-flite's but flight time is about a min to min and a half shorter in my experience.

RE: Blade MSR battery options?
Hi,
I recently purchased a Tenergy 160 mAh 15C battery that fits the mSR perfectly. I am getting about 12 minutes total flight time and only cost 6.99 where the E-Flite 150 mAh was 12.99. It is longer than the stock battery which had me worried, but it alos has a black collar and I push it all the way in whichI thought would make the mSR front heavy, but it flew fine without any back trim or anything that i normally don't do with the stock battery. Of course you can always pull it back out a bit if needed to adjust C of G but I didn't find it necessary. One thing is when you first install and then take off the mSR does have more power so be ready for it if you go with this battery. Anyway, I liked it so much i went back the same day and bought another and it also fits the Celectra charger just fine. Ibought mine at Performance Hobbies which is also (lucky for me)my LHS. These will most likely be the only batteries I buy for the mSR due to cost, power and long flight times. I am sure you can all find them on line somewhere. The brand Tenergy has an N that looks like a lightning bolt and is in red on the battery. Doesn't have the red dot on the back (the plain side) but just remember the label side is opposite of the dot when plugging into the heli. I bought a total of 7 of the Tenergy 130 mAh from my LHS, and returned 5 of them. 1 had a bad connector, and 4 would not take a charge.
