It looks like the Eratix is aimed at the guy who wants to learn 3D. Since I am looking to expahnd my skill set, this appears to be the next level. I'm definately planning on getting an Eratix. I'll use this thread to post my progress and maybe a video or two.

Looks like $149.95, which is right in line with what the Diamante 25E costs. When you think about it, the eratix is only $50 more than a Mini Pulse. So far, it's not so bad.

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=EFL4075

Forget about the Power 25. We need lots of gut busting torque for this baby, so the Power 32 is that way to go. $89.95, which is only $5 more than the Power 25, and $25 more than the 480 we use in the Mini Pulse.

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...odID=EFLM4032A

Right now, we are only about $75 more expensive than a Mini Pulse, so it's not so bad. I am sort of afraid what the speed controller is going to cost, however.....

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=EFLA1060

Hey, even that isn't so bad. That's 79.95 compareed to $54.95 for the 40amp E flite ESDC we are using in the Mini Pulse and Mini Ultra Sticks with the 480. I'm still doing research, but I believe this ESC has a BEC that can handle up to 4S operation. This will save about $20 that we would otherwise have to spend for a separate BEC. On this link it says 3S operation, but I remember reading somewhere that this ESC would handle 4S operation without a separate BEC.

We've been running the Power 32 on 4S in the Ultra Stick 25E without a separate BEC, mostly because we didn't know any better. So far we haven't had any trouble, but all my Power 32 planes are grounded until I figure out how to handle the BEC issue. Hopefully this ESC will solve that issue. I really don't want to add a separate BEC because it's just more complexity, but I don't want my ESC frying and crashing the plane either.

Don't forget 60 amp ESC and 4S li-po's -- compared to the Mini Pulse. Nevertheless, this baby is on my wish list for August, when it is supposed to become available.

I figured everyone would be at the field, and you caught me between editing. :D

Nevertheless, this baby is on my wish list for August, when it is supposed to become available.
Give me a minute to dig up some battery info and I'll be back.

EDIT:
Here's one of the batteries we are running in the Ultra Stick 25E. We are getting 12-15 minutes on this battery and that's running it really hard. The difference between 3S and 4S is stupefying. Aside from a few dollars up front, there doesn't seem to be any downside. The motor doesn't run any hotter and we aren't giving up any run time, but OMG, power goes off the scale.

Before we were running 15C 3 cell 4200 packs and not getting any better time, while running those batteries hot. Power was good enough for sport flying, but it was nowhere near as explosive as a Mini Ultra Stick 480 (which is now our performance standard). The new 4S 20C extreme series batteries are running cooler and putting out nearly unspeakable power. We're running the extreme series 3S batteries in our Mini Ultra Sticks as well, and we are extremely pleased with them.

It sure looks like $179.95 to me. This is a whole lot of money, but it's also the price we pay for jumping up to he-man sized planes. In the long run, these batteries will work in the Ultra Stick 25E and the 3D Hobby Shop Aspera, so I've already got a couple anyway. Going to this size battery is going to open up a whole new set of options for me......not to mention that if the Pulse 25E ever happens, I'll be ready.

Doc, you are a trip. [&:] You not only did a beautiful job of minimizing the humongous cost of equipping a 40-size electric but you appealed to the guys who think with their lower appendage with that "he-man size" metaphor. Congrats on some nice writing. :)

Oh well. No one ever said that this was a inexpensive hobby.

Doc Austin,

One of my problems is that I don't have a charger for 4S li-po's.

I was thinking of going with the E-flite 25 (rather than 32) and 3S2P li-po's so I can continue to use my current charger.

Do you think the E-flite 25 set up would be too wimpy for this plane, event though is one of the recommended set ups?

Doc,

Here is a Pulse XT 40 that can be easily converted to electric.

It does require an Eflite Power 40 but can be used with same ESC and 4S li-po's

We flew the power 25 on 3S and it was a slug. The 32 was much better, but it didn't come to life until we ran it on 4S and now the thing is just plain scarey. The Eratix is a 3D plane, so you are going to want all the oomph you can get. I'de say just save up for a triton 2 or an Ice charger. Those will handle up to 7 amps. If you go with 3S and the power 25, it will probably be ok, but you will need to spend the money aoll over again for motor and batteries when you want more power. I'de say save your money and wait until you can get the killer setup.

Fella's i have this plane equipped with the 25 motor and it is way enough motor for it. Will pull it out of anything. Hovers at about 1/2-3/4 throttle. Does all the 3D I can do and more. You can use the 32 motor but it is not needed.
My setup is the recommended MG servos Hi-Tec
60 amp Castle Creations ESC (you can use alot cheaper ESC) this one over 100.00
2 2100 lipo batt. run parelell
25 brushless motor
15x6 apc prop
I think about the cheapest you will get this plane in the air will be around 5-7 hundred depending on what brands of equipment you use.
Now the plane flys great and does everything you would expect of of it.
I did use longer servo arms to get the most out of thr Ail, rudd, and elev.
I use all the movement i can get. Had to cut back a little cause you can get to much and rudd. will hit elev.
Overall great plane lands like a dream just keep the prop moving some and land. Or cut it back and float it in.
PLane is very light 5-6lbs.
Landing gear is weak and on a hard landing if you have one will flatten out and stick the wheel pants thru wings. Also the removable hatch to me is backwards mounted. with the magnets at front. Mine blew off once. I just screwed a short sevo arm infront of hatch and use it to keep hatch down. You just turn it out of the way to remove hatch.
There is alot of room inside hatch for batt. rec. and ESC.
I also have moved my batterys around a little back and forth you have a little room to move it this way and to me there is not much difference and that is moving the two 3cell 2100 lipos about an 1 1/2" front or back.
Hope this helps some of you great plane flys very well and looks good just sitting very easy on the eyes in the air also.

I just bought the eratix and got the power 32 for it. I'm not sure if i need an adapter, to get the the spinner and back plate to line up with cowl. The prop adapter does not set back all the way on the motor shaft. Maybe some motor mount extentions? This is my first post and hopefully some can help,Thanks

Check the kit and instructions carefully. These kits are really complete and the extensions should be there.

Junk the spinner - cut away bottom of cowl to all cowl to slip back
extensions are your treat
Mine has the 32 annd a 60 amp NEW ESC with on board switching BEC and the HiTech metal gear servos
I threw away the gear and made crossed wire gear - ugly - so what - they tke all kinds of punishment I use 5 , A123 cells and a 13.6.5 APC it is a rocket or a floater. Note the flat carbon strips CAed to ailerons - worthwhile - very--

I built my Eratix, I used the 25BL, 2 x 2200 3S. But this thing is way to heavy in the tail. Did anyone else have the same problem? What did you do? how much weight did you end up adding?

Sorry, so many questions.

I was following the manual for CG, 3 1/4 top 4 inches.

gaser11234 05-20-2008 11:29 PM

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Yes I did have a tail heavy problem. But I used standard servos so I set the motor 1/2 in. out and moved up to power 32 for more nose weight and 6 -a123.Yes 6!!! Over 1000 watts 65a 8.5 lb. thrust is ok for now mabe power 46 on 7 or 8 -a123.

p.s.I got a one for $115 out door.:D

Update I sorten my wires on my esc. and lost one batterie connecter now I have 1100 watts + 70a 9 lb. thrust ok![sm=thumbs_up.gif]

It took me a long time...... but I finally got an ERATIX.

I went with the Power 32 and 4S lipo's. Lots and lots of power and flies great. Just floats in for nice soft landings.
Still not very good at hovering and looks like I will have to experiment with the CG a bit. Wings are rocking more than expected on harriers. But..... I've only had 4 flights so far.

One of the flights was with a 3S lipo and was not really that bad, although noticeable decrease in power. Nevertheless, great sports flying with it and still looked great even on vertical climbs.

Not much being posted on these forums. Just wondering how else is around flying the ERATIX.

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

I've had quite a few flights now. This plane is awesome.
Much easier to fly than anything else I have flown before plus you can grow with it as you learn 3D maneuvers which it does effortless.
Using the Power 32 and 4S packs is the way to go. However, I have found out that I can hover it easier with a 3S 4400 mah pack. Perhaps the CG is just at the right spot when using that pack.
Any suggestions as to where I could go to learn more about 3D maneuvers? (other than the regular hovers, elevator and harriers?)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
