What do you do when you get stuck with a spare electric out runner motor? Sell it or keep it? Well, I got recently stuck with 'Eflite110', I have managed to get my hands on in the hurry, but soon after realized it's not good enough for the intended project.
I thought, what a great opportunity to design a new model to match it?
Next day, after quick sketch on the A4 with the basic idea about the shape and size, I have laid down few more sheets of 6mm Depron to enlarge the drawing directly on, and start cutting.
The usual lamination and carbon fiber reinforcement didn't take too long with the use of contact spray, liquid nails and some Epoxy to minimize the AUW, I was hoping to end up under 4 kilograms.
Bit of wishful thinking, but not too bad after exceeding it some 50 grams over, with the use of 8S/4Ah/high C-rated batteries.
Just over 100 hours of loving labor, ending up with "JF-ULTRA-XL" at just over 2x2 meters.
The first premier flight, ended very well, taking it bit easy, tho, the second one had to be abruptly ended soon after take off and the first exit from a large loop, when I heard some "POP", knowing strait away something snapped off.
While landing it,

Making it up as I go.

Laminating/carbonizing Depron sheets.

Huge 110dm2 wing area, and first touch of primer.

Joining it together.

Here comes the power.

More touch of livery.

Same size but 55% lighter than Eflite360/12S powered Giant.

Minor failure after 2nd. test flight.

Additional frame reinforcement.

Perfect match.

Not much of the prop clearance! LOL.

it was clearly visible the top wing CF braces snapped off under the wing load from the profile fuselage, slightly overlooked by bracing it only on the top of the frame!
Easy fix, few more meters of CF, this time top&bottom to make it stiffer.
Laughing all the way after further flights. I like it.
