RE: e-flite p-47
Hello,
I would go with the Thunder Power 2100 3 cell pack. I have two of them and they are great. Keep us updated on how you like the P-47. I am very interested in buying one for my next plane.

RE: e-flite p-47
To all,
I saw this plane fly at an electric meet here in Vegas about 2 months ago. It was flown by a Horizon rep. I believe his name was Jason. He had the 450 and a 3C 2100 in it as well. I am not sure as to what ESC he had in it but, I would guess that it was the E-flite 20. Anyway I was so impressed that I went out and got all the same gear the next week. They plane just fell together in a couple of evenings. I was slow since I wanted to make sure all was right. I added the rudder and made a steerable tail wheel to it. It looks great. The first flight was only about 1 minute, most of it trying to get back on the ground in one piece. I balanced the plane with my fingers on the molded in CG points and it was ok. I then put two #2 pencil erasers on the CG and the tail fell like a rock. I added almost 6 oz. of lead to the inside of the cowl to get it to balance at the correct spot. I guess the 450 set-up was just a lot lighter than the stock. The tail wheel is only a little Dubro micro wheel so, it couldnt have added that much weight to the tail. I will try it again this weekend. good luck with yours.
P.S. What size APC would you guys think would work out on this 450?

RE: e-flite p-47
ffdg,
No the battery was as far forward as it would go in the compartment. I thought that it was alot of weight as well. I havent put the plane on a scale but I would guess that it is in the 26oz range.

With the (2100) battery forward in the tunnel, and the described setup, it should take no more than 1 to 1-1/2 ounce to balance.
Were there any other mods or re-paints to the plane? (I generally takes no lead with the 'stock brushed' configuration.)
Did you remove the stock tail wire and plastic mount to compesate for the tailwheel you added? Is the tailwheel VERY light?
The ESC can also be located forward in the cowl area.
It flies beautifully when balanced on the marks with the reccomended thows. Do you have the reccomended elevator throws?
Pilot reports from this plane have been VERY good.
Maybe you should call Horizon support and discuss it?
Have Fun,
David

To all,
I did not put the stock tail wheel on it. I did leave the plastic mount for it in place. The tail wheel I used was alot smaller and a very little wire into the rudder. Anyway, after getting it into the air and trimming it out it flies real nice. It really gets up and goes compared to the stock motor set-up. It has alot more vertical. The ESC is on the bottom of the fus., between the wing and fus. It is right on the CG. I may still try some balance tricks with it to remove some of the lead. The first flight was with the stock prop. The rest were with an APC 11 X 7E. It was a noticable difference. After all the flights (about 10 min. each) the battery was the only thing to get warm and it was just barely warm to the touch. I could get almost two full flights out of a single charge. I only wish they would come out with some more warbirds like the P-47.

Hi Stangevil29,glade to hear your plane flew good.I have some questions maybe you could help me with.Do you still have the 6 ozs to balance it,what set up did you use for the steerable tail wheel and did you use a switch for the batt.also you are still using an apc 11x7.
thanks Fred

RE: e-flite p-47
ffdg,
I havent got to the plane since Saturday. (Fighting the crowds with the wife!). I used some wire that was about the same size control rods that come with the plane. I just bent it to about 45* and then let it go vertical up the leading edge of the rudder about an inch, then 90* back into the rudder about 1 1/2in. Much like most simple tail dragger set-ups on bigger planes. I also made the hole in the rudder a little bigger than the rod so I could put a piece nyrod tubing in the rudder. This keeps the wire from rounding out the hole when taxiing. I will keep with the 11 X 7. It flies great.

Stangevil29,
So your happy with the 11-7 apc. What bracket did you use for the tailwheel and what tailwheel ?Im thinking a gws 1" scale wheel & a dubro tailwheel bracket. Have you heard of people using a gws 4 blade prop on this plane? Your installion sounds pretty normal for the tailwheel set up.
thanks Fred

RE: e-flite p-47
ffdg,
These are the only batteries (Li-po) I have. I know of a few flyers here that use kokam and dont seem to have any trouble with them. I think anymore that it may just be a personal preference. I think they are all about the same $ for 3C 2100 size.

RE: e-flite p-47
a buddy of mine bought the p-47 a few days ago.. i checked it out that night. very nice detail and really cool plane in general. he wanted to test it this sunday and i went along and ended up flying my mini edge 540 to. it was below zero.. well over 10mph winds and did i say it was FREEZING and WINDY[X(]. he went with stock motor set up and 10.8 battery from his typhoon and optional rudder set up. flew very nice considering conditions and not being able to feel stick movements from wearing gloves. very nice detail for this size and type of plane.. the detail is just to cool and i may end up getting something similar to chase him around with in spring lol.. a lot more to look at than the aerobatic planes ive been learning with and it looks really nice in the air. PS. pictures just dont do it justice.. you really need to see one up close to see the detail

RE: e-flite p-47
one thing i noticed that you might want to know is its pretty common in some warbirds for them to nose over easy on take off and landing. my buddy expierenced that.. just use elevator to hold tail down until your up to speed.. you can also bend gear forward a little to counteract it... you may not even expierence it but my buddy did. good luck with it/its one sweet looking plane.
