Crashed Stryker F-27C
I flew my Stryker for the first time Sunday. I made sure all was working properly and C.G. was correct. Hand launch was good with a 5-10 knot wind. I flew it around for about 3-5 mins with no problems. Then all heck broke loose. As I was bringing it by at about 40ft it made a hard snap roll to the left, and nosed dived into the road. I know I had enough speed and was going upwind, so I don't think it stalled. Any help on this matter would be great.

An autopsy would include examination of the connectors (as found) and a list of transmitter inputs vs control surface deflection. Then go over the results with an experienced flyer (or post here.)
Good luck,

All connections good. Except for the motor and battery that went flying across the road. That is the first thing I checked before flight and after crash. I have been doing some reading on other post, and it seems others have had sim issues. Radio, servos going bad out of box. I think I will rebuild this one and put diff servos and maybe try to move the reciever. Prob would be a good idea to buy a better radio than the one that came with this plane. Don't know, need to do something, because that was ugly seeing your new plane explode like a big fire cracker in a styrofoam cooler.

I know the feeling air604... when you make a mistake... thats one thing... when the stock equipment fails... that tends to piss you off!! One question?.. How far away did you range test? I had a similar problem where the servo goes spastic and forces the plane into a spiraling nose dive. Ohhhh the sinking feeling in your gut when that happens. where I fly I may have to scale down a 500 foot canyon to recover my bird. The box the stryker came in didn't warn me that I would loose weight flying this beast. It all good

I sure did. I was bringing it by my when it went stupid. I would say no further then 10ft away from me, and 40 ft in altitude.

RE: Crashed Stryker F-27C
Here's something to check. How much current were you putting through the ESC? It may have got hot & shut down causing loss of Rx power. I had a couple of planes go in for no apparent reason & finally attributed their demise to ESC shut down. One thing that makes this a tough diagnosis is that after the ESC cools down, it works fine. You don't have to be running an ESC at or near its max rating for it to get hot. If it's new, it could even be a faulty unit that for one reason or another is drawing too much current and getting hot after just a few minutes of operation. I have since started putting UBECs in ALL of my planes. This helps in two ways. First, it lessons the heat generated by the ESC since it no longer has to regulate the voltage from a 3 or 4 cell Lipo down to 5v. This generates heat. Second, it at least gives me a chance to land softly albet, maybe not where intended, as the control surfaces and Rx continue to work even if the ESC/motor fry themselves. Good luck.

I would not think it got hot. I was still in the process of trying to just get the feel for it. I would have to say I was running at a little less then half throttle and that was short time doing that. I would have to agree with you on faulty equipment. Signal, servo or something. I have since bought a spectrum dx6i and it came with a 6200 receiver. So when i rebuild this thing at least i will have a better signal. I just need to get better servos for it. I am thinking about the hitec 82. I posted something about those asking if they will work because the servo horns are shorter. If you could help me on that I would appreciate it. I am kind of a newbe at this. Only been flying for about a year. 1ST plane was a cessna 182 4 channel still running strong and the piper cub 4 channel. I also have many hours on the g4 sim.

Its not hard to find horns that will work with the HS82's, but the more difficult thing is extending the servo wiries. You will either have to get extensions, or make some new wires for your servos. I did have a difficult time finding the proper size horns, but hitec makes an adjustable single arm that I think will work fine. Try this site [link]http://www.servocity.com/html/hitec_servos.html[/link]

The site you sent me gives me more options. I am sure another brand servo would work, that has a servo horn long enough. My new airframe will be here by thursday. I am so ready to fly my stryker (AGAIN). Have a new radio and receiver. I am going flying tomorrow to try the radio out flying my cessna and piper cub.

I would have to think that it was either a stripped servo causing one of the elevons to go out of control or a radio glitch if all control rods were in place. Were you flying in an area that might have some interference?

Thanks for the reply on both of my questions. I am new to this site and should only keep one going so other members can follow my quwstions. To the question about interference. There is nothing around but open area. Since my crash, i bought a dx7 with the rx package.

RE: Crashed Stryker F-27C
I just bought a stryker C , because three of my fellow buddies all have them. Two of the three have had glitchy issues with the stock radio's and have since swapped out the RX for a brand name and use a different TX. It caused a crash in these two, one crash was a total. The third guy has been flying his with no mercy with the stock radio with no issues so far. So you either get a good one or not.
On mine out of the box it seemed to work O.K., but on closer inspection I found the RX crystal was not even seated all the way in its socket in the RX. It was barely sitting on the contacts. So who knows how long that would have worked? As a pre-caution I have removed the stock radio and repaced it with a futaba system. And I have not even flown it yet!
Anyone want to buy a new un-used stock radio on channel 50?

So, I recovered half the cost of another Spektrum Rx which is what I use.
By the way, I've been flying a Stryker 27C for quite some time, using stock Tx/Rx and has been working great. No problems at all.
