Cold weather question..
 

I have been flying nitro RC planes for 8 years now and just started with the electrics. My question is, do the cold temps effect the motors or lipo's?? Up here in northern minnesota we fly in as cold as 15 degrees F. thru the winter months.

LiPo's don't work well, or at all, below 40F. Motors work better cold.

Charge the batteries at home or in a warm vehicle, and keep them at room temperature until ready to use. I fly a Slow Stick on skis here at the house, the issue with a plane like the SS is that the battery is hang out in the breeze, if your battery is outside the plane, then you will notice a loss in performance.

I've been keeping the LiPo's in my pocket until it's time to install or change. 

I also fly in the winter (I live in central Minnesota) but find the limiting factor is my hands getting cold.  How do you deal with that?

Here in cold Neebraskee I try to fly year round. I have a small six pack cooler, then I wrap my lipos in one of those heating pads that you pop into the microwave for a minute to heat up. Works great for me, If Im going to the park for a quickie I just put the packs in my shirt pocket under the outer clothes and the body heat keeps them warm enough.

I make these baggies from the foam plastic that some electronics comes in. Scotch taped together with a velcro closure and held to the profile fuse with Velcro. Enclosed like this, it generates enough heat to keep itself warm.
