height problem on firebird
Hello all, i'm very new to rc planes and have got myself a firebird xl which i am really enjoying flying but.........
i can get the plane to about 40' high, and at this height it will happily cruise around on 1/2 throttle until the battery runs out, but when i apply more throttle to climb higher the nose goes up and it then stalls and i lose altitude. i have tried everything the manual says with no luck, could this be a problem with the CG? i am tempted to move the battery back a little but i need th o know what you guys think. thanks in advance. |

I suggest you try shimming the trailing edge of the wing up with a business card thickness. Try that and add more if necessary. 40 feet up is about right for that plane and radio.

I've seen them fly much higher than 40 feet, so there's definitely no magical anti-firebird fly swatter up there just waiting for one to crack the 40-foot ceiling ;) Then again, you are in the UK, and laws may be different over there...
If the plane is box-stock, the CG should be fine. It sounds like the plane is trimmed out okay, too, if you're cruising level at half throttle. I suspect that it's just piloting skill that's necessary here. Jamming the stick to full throttle will generally cause Firebirds to pitch up sharply and stall. That's because they don't have enough power to sustain a vertical climb. Try applying the throttle graudally. |
