Brushless question

Saw this motor:

http://www.hobby-lobby.com/brushless-uberall.htm
NEW! Better performance than a geared SPEED 300!
UBR0808 "Nippy Black" 0808/98 External Rotor Brushless
Motor Use with 6-8 cells and a Jeti 08-3P controller and APC props from 8x6 to 11x5.5. Maximum sustained current 8 amps.

and if you order the combo:
COMBO Price $ 114.00

Thats the motor and the 18 amp Jeti ESC. looks like an awsome deal.

Any thoughts?
I'm thinging of using it on a depron 3D style plane.. You think thats a good match with a 2 Cell 1500 Kokam LiPoly or a 3 Cell maybe?

Do you think it has thrust of maybe 16oz or more?

It sure looks like a great deal. I may have to scrape up some new funds.
I think I'd stick with a 2 cell pack since they recomend 6-8cells.

RE: Brushless question

Two points - that motor comes with an 8A controller, not the 18A (that is supplied with the next size up motor). If, as indicated, max sustained current is 8A for that motor, I think you are a bit too close to the limit with only an 8A controller - I would err on the side of caution and get a bigger ESC.

The second point is that I don't THINK that Jeti controllers have programmable LVC for LiPoly use. If they DON'T - then you need to get a Castle Creations Phoenix 10P, [or a Phoenix 25P], which IS programmable.

Cheers, Phil

RE: Brushless question

I second the CC ESC's. I have a brushless (Razor 300) with a 3 cell LiPo and a Phoenix 10 on my Depron Foamtana. It's a very nice ESC. It's LVC is not exactly suited for the 3 cell LiPo pack. It should be around 8.1v, but the closest setting is 9v. Not a big deal at all. Works just fine, just cuts off a little sooner than needed.

Hi Mike,

You can extend you're runtime with a 3v per cell cutoff by switching to the "soft cutoff" mode - that way, instead of a hard motor off when the voltage is reached, the esc limits the motor rpm to keep the voltage at that point.

RE: Brushless question

well i'm going to try the combo.. if anything happens I'll let them know that the combo doesn't work. I have a tiny but bright light I made that comes on when the batteries get low so I'm not worried about the ESC not suited for lipolys Do these little motors perform well? Thats the major question.. 8A max sounds nice for 1500 mha thats (about) 25 minute flight time.. I hope that little motor runs well. I just ordered the combo
