suitable aerobird flight pack
 

Hi All,

I'm strictly a beginner but having loads of fun flying my aerobird challenger. It's the 2nd fuse as one of the servos is dead in the old one. After doing lots of reading on the forum and seeing some of the modifications many folks have made to this plane, I decided to try and resurrect the old fuse by keeping the motor and purchasing a mini flight pack.

Why bother? I like the way the aerobird flies and like tinkering with things. The exercise will be a good learning experience in electric flight. Using conventional servos with push rods (instead of fishing line) will establish more precise and consistent control.

Anyway, I don't know about flight packs at all. Does anyone have any suggestions for one that would be suitable. And do I need to purchase anything else besides a flight pack to make this scheme work? I plan on using a Futaba 6exa as the radio. (overkill but its the radio I've picked to go with my nitro trainer)

Why bother you say? I was going to read you the riot act for giving up on that bruised up aerobird fuselage!!! That's not the way of a true modeler! ;)

To the best of my knowledge, the Aerobird servos are "standard" GWS Pico servos. Not for nothing, but you probably could've just replaced the bad servo with a GWS Pico, and it would be as good as new.

That leads me to a flight pack recommendation. A GWS flight pack for the Slow Stick would be ideal for a Frankensteined Aerobird chassis.

Believe me Matt...I'm far from giving up on that fuse yet!

I don't have it in front of me to look at as I'm at work right now...but are you sure those servos are removable? I took the control board out when I figured out the servo was broken and it seems to me to be permanently affixed to the control board. Maybe I just need to try a little harder to remove it if is a pico servo that is obtainable. I even called Hobbyzone and asked them if they sold just the control board. They don't break down any of the fuse components though selling only the entire fuse as an available part.

If I purchased the GWS flight pack, would I need to purchase anything else for it to work with my Futaba radio? (havn't actually bought it yet...its just the one I've picked to buy)
