Charging poly VS ion HELP
Hi
I just made a offer on a triton charger and and just found it's specs for charging rate is differnt for poly and ion where as the polys can only go to 1 amp and ions can go to 2.5 amp .. I was hoping to charge a little faster on some 1500 polys that balsa producks sells the can take up to 2 amps reduceing lifespan some ,,,, I was going to push to 1.5 Amp to get down to around 45 min charge time .. Question is,,, The charger will charge ion at a higher rate And can that be used with polys ? If not ...WHY ? Would the temp probe help ? I just checked the specs again at tower and found I may be misunderstanding specs ? The rates posted as 1 amp for fast charging poly ,,,,,,,,, adjustabe rate at 2.5 amp for both ! Question is the charger capable of a fast charge at 2.5 amp for polys ? Seems to be two differnt rates for fast charge ... and adjustable ??? Thanks Ron |
RE: Charging poly VS ion HELP
It is not a good idea to fast charge Li-polys. They should not be charged any higher than 1C or one times their capacity. If you go above this, you will run a risk of igniting or exploding the li-pos.

RE: Charging poly VS ion HELP
At balsa usa site,,on the charging info there polys can go up to
2 amps on the 1500 s you can see on there specs . I was thinging 1.5 so as not to reduce there life span too much ! Thanks For the info /// Maybe these batts have a lower internal resistance ? I don't know |
RE: Charging poly VS ion HELP
The Triton does not make a distinction between charging Lion and Lipoly. Either can be charged at up to 2.5 amps with a 4 cell maximum. The Charger has a voltage selection that charges at less voltage for Lions and higher for Lipoly.
