E-Starter on floats
I've been flying my E-Starter with landing gear for a couple of weeks. Very good performance with GWS B drive, Himax 2025-4200, 9x7 SF prop on 2S. Great performance including verticle with same set up on 3S.
I'm about to put on the GWS floats and have a question. I plan to use the 3S set up to make sure I get off the water since I've never flown off water. I'm worried about water getting in the system. The plane isn't exactly waterproof. I'll tape the open areas. How much water does it take to mess up the speed control? I'd hate to loose that valuable gismo or anything else for that matter. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Randy |
RE: E-Starter on floats
Submerging with the power on is usually a death sentence for the speed control. Motors, servos, and receivers usually survive a dunking if they're allowed to dry thoroughly before you attempt to use them again.
I have an E-starter myself, and I really don't see where too much water can get in, unless it goes completely under. The problem with sealing everything up is twofold: a. Getting tape to stick. b. Cutting off cooling airflow to batteries and motor. |
RE: E-Starter on floats
Thanks Matt, I had a feeling what your answer would be. I'll take care. I've got the speed controller in the upper compartment so that should provide some protection. I'll make sure I don't dunk the thing.
