thought I might contribute to the new forum!

this is my VIP, a pylonracer known to be "soft" not the fastest around but very nice to fly, and really east to start/land. also it is a bit larger then the hottest 400 racers, so you can squeze in more cells, which is good ;)

man thats HOT i have seen one fly like that once before but it will be awhile before i do something like that.fun in the future,i remember your help from one of my previous posts regarding 2 brushless motors&1 e.s.c. i appreciate your help on that subject.my new pride is an esprit-zombie that will be upgraded to brushless&li,polly by the end of the week,takin the mini hotliner approach.hopefully it will thermal.as hot as its been lately you could thermal a V.W. micro bus. nice ship man...........

I just got a VIP and ordered a tp2100 3s for my mega 16/15/3. I'm concerned that I will draw too many amps on the 4.75x4.75.

Using a 9.6v nicad pack I'm drawing 23 amps. I figure that the 11.1 lipo's will draw much more. Is this ok?

you choose a very good setup! I think it will be just right!

If this is yor first pylon racer, remember one thing, THROTTLE BACK and everything is easy as pie!! ýou will get scared from the speed the first flight, they travel faster then you think.

it is way more important to give it a stright toss, then a hard one...

Do you know what the max amp draw is for the tp2100 3s? I just want to make sure I don't ruin the pack.

I will definately start conservative on my first flight. I am used to going 150+mph with much larger sailplanes. I think going half that speed with the VIP will be even more difficult. I fly on the slope, so I will launch off power and let it go out a safe distance before hitting throttle.

2100 are spec 12C so they will be fine at 25A or so.

however I ran my 4s2p Etecs at 17C in the VIP and landed with them uner 100F, which means full throttle is only used very little...

I see.. So I shouldn't worry to much about the "c" rating as much as temperature. Would it be ok to prop this thing up to draw over 30 amps as long as I only use short bursts of power and keep the battery temp down?

exactly, as long as you stay withing resnable limits it´s onlt the temp that decides how many C you can pull :)

you need to check that with the specific battery company,,, think most li-po say to stay under 160F, but I personally think thet sounds a bit high,,,,

Last question I promise. Just did some static tests with the 3s tp2100 and it's drawing 31 amps. I'm ok as long as they stay cool right? 31 amps seems so high.

use the throttle, and check the temps. you are outside of the spec so no "warranty" yealds I guess. all I can say is it worked for me.... but that´s me ;)

Hi Folks.

I've just bought one of these, well at least I assume it's the same model, couldn't really see much more than a rather fast streak in the vid. [sm=lol.gif]

I was advised to stick to a can speed 400 to start with and upgrade to brushless later. Added to which the Li-Po route is still a very expensive one in the uk, so Ni-Mh Kan pack and a can motor to start with.

Really after any good hints or tips you could give me about setting up, do I use expo, how much movement. And any flying tips. I've probably only flown models doing 60-70 mph before this. could be interesting. Hints and tips on launch and landing technique would also be great.

Basically I want to drain your collective brains on anything that might save me from stacking in such a lovely model.

Hey Guys.

I just got one of these too. I flew one that belonged to a friend of mine.
His has a brushless set up, but it wasn't near as fast as the one in the clip.
This is my first hi po electric and I know very little about electrics.
What would be some other good motor/controller options to obtain the performance
of the one in the clip?
I was looking at a Hacker B40 F5D motor with their 90amp ESC..

Jeremy, the b40 will be way too much motor for the vip. I would highly recomment a f5d style plane such as the sunracer or avionik d-99. These are bigger planes that can carry the weight of this system and fly much more stable at 150+ mph.

Now if you are set on the vip, I would get the mega 16/15/3 with cc25 controller.

oops I just read that you already have the vip. I would highly recommend the mega 16/15/3, tp2100 3S, cc25 controller, 4.75x4.75 apc prop. This is a pretty fast setup without having to modify the plane. Plus its a fraction of the cost of a carbon hacker b40 setup. I clocked mine at 145mph in a dive.

Yup.

I talked to Shaun yesterday at Hacker and he said I had the wrong series.
He said I would need the B20 size motor. He recomended the B20 15L
with the TP 3s 2100 and a 30amp ESC. and 4.75X4.75
Any of yall had any experience with the Hacker motors?
I don't understand why the 16/15/3 is a 3 turn and The Hacker is a 15 turn
What difference would this make??

It seems that the mega's are far more popular for these setups. Hacker seems to be more popular for the more powerful systems. Maybe because of price? I think the mega 16/15/3 is much cheaper than the hacker with the same performance.

OK, I just ran some numbers on motocalc and the mega slightly outperforms the hacker b20 15L in every way except the hacker is 0.5oz lighter which is almost nothing. You will have more speed, less amp draw, more runtime, betterh thrust, climb rate with the mega. I guess thats why everyone is using the mega.

Yup, It's about $30 cheaper too. I may just go with the Mega.

The 2 turn would pull way too many amps for the lipo's. If you want to go that route, you will need to use round cells. You might be able to fit 10 gp1100's in the fuse, but you will get a fraction of the runtime. It will be a heavy setup which means harder landings, but it will be FAST! You will also need a bigger controller.

Check out my VIP video and see if that setup is fast enough for you. It is a nice light setup with lots of runtime and speed. You can definately go faster, but then you are looking at much heavier setups which sacrifice runtime and flyability.

I'm moving to round cells and lower turn in my sunracer. I'll see if it was worth it and let you know.

I saw the clips of the Sunracer and the Stinger. I think this is more what I'm looking for in speed.
Are these the larger F5D planes?? Can you tell me more about them and thier motor/bat. set ups?

Your definately rigth on the VIP the lighter and longer run time would be much better.

Ok, I saw in one of your previous post that the sunracer is a larger F5D.
I'll start with my VIP, but I gotta get one of the larger faster planes.
They are too cool!

Yes, the sunracer is in the f5d class which has about 10" more wingspan. MUCH more stable and easier to fly. Plus you can power it with that hacker 40 for some insane speed. Up till now, I've been running the aveox 27/26/1.5 with lipo's in the sunracer. I'm getting over 10 min of flight time, but I need to use alot of throttle management to keep the lipos cool. This has been a great setup for long flights and good speed all in a fairly light package. I'm now feeling the need for more speed, so I just picked up a 27/26/1 which is a lower turn motor. This forces me to use a heavy round cell pack and a bigger controller that barely fits. I'll probably get a couple mins of runtime, but hopefully at least 20% more speed. Plus I can fly full on power without worrying about overheating lipo's. Should be pretty insane, but I'm worried about launching such a heavy plane. Plus it's gonna land like a meteor.
