ESC/Receiver Interference
I'm sure someone knows the answer to this one.....
My ESC is generating interference which causes glitching. I've changed the relative position of of the ESC and receiver, as well as trying different combos of Dual/Single conversion PCM and PPM, changing the position of the arial, and tried different channels. I've also asked my hobbyshop to swap the ESC. None of this works, but what did work was wrapping the receiver in Aluminium cooking foil(We call it bacofoil in the UK) Ahahh...success at last! But here's the questions... 1.Having uninsulated foil so close to 20Amps makes me nervous, can you get an insulated foil from somewhere? 2.Should the foil in someway be connected to "Earth", if so, would that be the black or Red battery connection? Or somewhere else? 3.Anybody else got rid of ESC/receiver channel interference using any other method? Many thanks! Chris |
RE: ESC/Receiver Interference
Chris,
What is the setup? Motor, ESC, Battery, Plane. How close is the RX to the motor and pack? If is a Brushed motor...do you have capacitors installed? Mike |
RE: ESC/Receiver Interference
Chris,
The foil works as a screen because it is a conductor. If you found a non conducting foil it would screen the Rx. What you could do is stick some kind of tape over the foil on both sides to insulate it. Better idea is to try and kill the interference without the foil. I have a JR700 Rx sitting next to an ESC (only place I could find) and it works OK. If you stay with the foil watch out for any effect it may have on range. I know the antenna is outside the screen, but if the screen is blocking interfernce affecting the Rx it must also be screening some signal too. Good luck Terry |
RE: ESC/Receiver Interference
Hi Mike,
Here's the setup Plane Excite foamy(Zagi look-alike) ESC Castle Creations Phoenix-25 Motor Super Flying Model Brushless 2 pole 2200-2-3064 Receiver - Futaba PCM Dual Conversion(although I've tried many others) Layout, the ESC is about 1.5 inches from the receiver A little experiment that I did was to move the ESC even closer, and I found that I could control the speed of the motor by the proximity of the ESC(Without touching the controls), the foil stopped this effect. Does any of this help? Thanks for trying to help Cheers Chris |
RE: ESC/Receiver Interference
All,
This is how is solved the problem...Take the cooking foil, cover on both sides with re-inforced tape, cover the receiver in the foil leaving the arial uncovered. No glitches, arial-down range of 50 metres, no danger of shorting out, flys perfectly. Thinking of patenting it and selling it on e-bay for vast amounts of money:D Oh OK, maybe not having given the recipe away.... Cheers Chris |
