Electricalc vs. Motocalc

Is there a great difference between these two programs? Is one considered superior to the other and if so what are some of the reasons? What is the general concensous of opinions among the members? hmmmmm

I need some hand-holding; specifically, I need a lesson on connectors, 101. I fly (and crash) almost exclusively GSW stuff, because I understand the JST hook-ups. As soon as I get to the 400 motors, I see only stub ends on the wires. I suppose I will also have to attend soldering 101. As an aside, I celbrated my 71st birthday flying a trip in a full scale Lear 60 for a very generous boss. With over 50 years of full scale accident free flying, the "foamies" are eating my lunch. I fully expect the FAA to knock down the door any day now. Let me also say that this is' a marvelous web site. Thanks for all the help so far, now tell me where I can acquite a bag full of connectors. (and direct me to the how to solder link)

There are plenty of choices where connectors are concerned. What it boils down to is how much current the connector will be excepted to handle. And, you're right, once you start moving into the 400 size motors, you'll want to start looking at connectors that can handle the extra current. And... yes... soldering is required.

I particularly like Hobby Lobby's connector web page, because they have all the common connectors ordered by maximum current:

For my projects, I always go with Astro Flight zero loss connectors no matter what the project is. Even though they're among the most expensive connectors on the market, you only need a couple per plane anyway, and their quality is unmatched. Unless I'm pinching pennies or counting grams, I wouldn't consider anything less.
