Beginner Plane?

I am an old time gas flyer trying to teach a guy that wants to fly only electric. He has a foam wing plane from that has WAY too high wing loading. It is anything but a trainer as it is too fast and too heavy.

I want to know what anybody has to suggest for a first time flyer. It MUST be of LOW wing loading and a slow flyer. ie, a FLOATER. I want to help this guy but haven't kept up with electrics.

Any and all help gratefully recieved.
Thanks, Jerry

RE: Beginner Plane?

Use the GWS F stick or slow stick. If he has the pico / nano stuff use the F stick. If you need more room for the big stuff use the Slow Stick.

Check out my thread titled "Good First Planes" in the Electric Training Forum.

What plane does your friend have now? It may not have any usable equipment in it. In that case I'd recommend the Eflite Slo-V. It's like a Ready To Fly Slow Stick. If he's not averse to a little building, definitely look into a GWS Slow Stick. Unfortunately, these are so easy to fly that he'll wonder why he ever needed you :)

He has a "Wing Dragon" from Hobby Lobby.
It's at:

I think it runs at 27 Mhz

I don't care what they say, it is NOT a trainer.

The wing-dragon is a awesome plane to start out on. Very easy to fly, cheap, and extremely durable. If anything breaks packing tape and hot glue will do the job! I know a few guys around here that fly those things, i was amazed on how stable they were and how easy to fly. I've flown one, and i have to say, for that kind of money your not going to find anything better! Excellent plane to start out on, and yes it is on a 27 mhz range. Stick with it, its a fun plane to have! It can perform basic aerobatics, take off from the ground, its just a good plane to have in the hanger for those last minute flights![sm=wink.gif]
