Any cheap alternative for a power system for the Hyperion Mini-Cap? (36.5")
Hello all. Im ready to get a new plane, but i simply cant afford/dont want to get into a brushless / lipo power system right now. I have equipment for basic nicad/nimh cells, dont want to have to buy a bunch of new stuff right now. I would like a small plane and would like it to be inexpensivly powered, but allow me to move up later on when i want to spend the money on the BL motors, lipo's, charger, ESC...and so fourth.
I really like the newish Hyperion Mini-cap that is out and availible from Espirit models. It looks like a fine model, well built...and can be fun in the future. http://www.espritmodel.com/ (Go to parkfliers, then "sport e-planes"...then jsut scroll down) WS: 36.5 " Length: 30.5 " Weight 20-21 oz. Airfoil : Symmetrical Wing area : 230 sq.in. Wing loading : 13 oz/sq.ft. Empty weight : 9.5 oz. http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/1597/untitled5av.png However it calls for a Mega 16/15/6 for decent performance or a Hacker A20 20L for good performance. Is there anyway i can get away with just a can motor for basic flight, maybe geared? With a basic esc, and regular batt pack? Like....a GP 8 cell, 1100mah pack? I know it wouldnt be anything great, but it would fly...and thats all i want to do right now. This would maybe give it the kind of performance the Great Planes super-sportsters (both mini and large) with their stock included can motors....not all that great....but works. Please tell me i have a chance. Thank you very much for you help, i look forward to the responses. Thanks!! -Dylan |

Have you seen the video for it? OMG i'm in love: (need Quicktime to view)
http://grenadeindoor.modelisme.com/video/capaw2.mp4 One of the best vids I have seen and the guy hand catches it in the end!!! I plan on getting this one real soon. I will be using my 9.6 8 cell packs to begin with since I have 4 packs now. I'm guessing I should be able to get at least 1 to 1 thrust ratio which is more than enough for pattern flying. I fly around 1.5 pound planes using speed 480 setup. I know you can buy either speed 400 or 480 motor new for $10 and cheap great planes 15amp ESC for $15. Though you still need prop adaptor for $5 more bringing total to $30. I'm on expert on mods so may want to confirm with someone if this would work. The Hacker A20-20L w/Hacker X-20 ESC is $110 which includes prop adaptor. |
