Esc question

Well I have a xtra 18a 400 sized speed control laying around...... My question is can I use that esc in a gws beaver, formosa, or e-starter? I don't think the motors in the plane are 400 sized but.....?

Here's the speed control http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/158124.asp

Thanks!:D

RE: Esc question

Yes, you will be fine with that esc in one in those.
It doesn't matter if the motor being used isn't then same size, it's how many amps it will be pulling from the battery & esc.
An 18amp esc should be suitable to use with a 480 size motor at the most (depending upon the size of prop used)
This will vary from plane to plane as each set up is different.
A larger prop will take more amps than a smaller one, but if is is driven through a gearbox, then this will reduce the amperage.
The only real way to tell how much, is to use a meter to check the amperage being taken.

RE: Esc question

It looks that way yes.
I have just had a quick search on the net, and they all have a similar motor size of either a 350 or 400, so if that is the case then, yes you can definately use the esc in anyone of those [sm=thumbup.gif]

A model with a 400 size setup will usually draw around 8 - 12 amps depending on prop size.
I have two 400 size models.
one takes 8.6 amps
the other takes 10 amps
