use xyz or simular

looking into a e-glider. the one I am looking at is from a good company that seems to have it's ducks in a row. When I plug in the suggested set up in to moto-calc I get very respectable numbers.
The problem I am having is that the manufacturer suggests motor "xyz" or equivalent. With all the numbers and such it seems that there is no common grounds for a quick choice. For example with glow engines you get a range say .25 to .40 so it is a relatively easy task to filter your choices for comparison. This does not seem to be the case with brushless electrics. I find advertising blurbs like "for between 25 to 35 oz. planes" about useless because of the different demands of the varying air frames. Any help? Maybe the industry is still working on this. But right now it seems that the current naming systems leave much to be desired.

Thanks Dave,
interesting yes, helpful no. Looks like until some standardization is implemented I'll just have to do my homework.
