Gyro question
I have never used a Gyro before and need some advice.
Will this work in an RC car to help keep it straight? And I am sure not all Gyro's aren't created equal. How do you know what to look for or does it really matter? I am using the electric GMS 14 Funny Car http://www.grandmotorsports.com/funnycar.asp I have seen some Gyro's forsale on Ebay and look really cheaply priced around $30 or so plus shipping. But since I never used one before, wanted to get some advice first. Many thanks - SS |
RE: Gyro question
you might want to look into a hh or a heading hold gyro, that should help keep your wheels straight for sure. I know the 401 is a really good heli gyro for about $140, but I have no idea what you would need to race in a car. They weigh about 29g or so, but that's probably not nearly as important in a car
The gryo's from cheapest to most expensive run about like this esky HH $40 or so telebee HH $50 to $60 align $80 g90 $90 lt2100 $90 to $100 gy240 $120ish gy401 $140ish The order in heli's as far as performance is probably something like this gy401, lt2100, gy240/g90, align/telebee, then esky All these models are HH, and some have remote gain, I dunno of what use that would be to you, but I know the gy401, lt2100, g90, and telebee all have remote gyro gain The only one that I know that doesn't have it is the gy240 hopefully that helps a bit |
RE: Gyro question
hrm, as an after thought, you'd have to isolate the vibration from the road pretty well from the car, especially if it wasn't a flat surface, or the car had no suspension. You can get wag or walking in helicopters if they are not balanced correctly, although it does have to be pretty extreme. I dunno how it senstive it would be in a car though.

RE: Gyro question
Thanks -
As for the car I am using as shown in the link - There is zero suspension. Just a drag car. Go fast in straight line on flat area. But sometimes not as flat as I would like though. Been email back and forth with Frank at Quark Brushless about my setup. I think I will use one of their ESC's in my car but regardless the steering isn't easy at the fast speeds. One small anything and it can wreck pretty hard. So was thinking the gyro would be helpful. Wish I knew someone who had one that I could borrow and try before I buy one. |
RE: Gyro question
hehe, yeah that would always help =)
I wonder if there is any way you can make the steering less sensative, maybe in the Tx or in the adjustment linkages or something =) good luck! [8D] |
