Need power suggestions for twin electic
 

Hi all!
I'm building an electric Cessna 310R (kitbashed from the Sunset Models 310), with a 50 inch wingspan, all up weight of about 4 pounds. I'm looking for suggestions for motor and prop choices. I plan to use 3 blade props to keep it looking scale, preferably Master Airscrew. Any and all suggestions welcome!

What a sweet little project! Not that the project itself is little, just the plane, relatively speaking.

Looks like they probably wanted twin .25 2-stroke glows originally. 9" is about all the prop you can fit between the nacelle and the fuselage, right? That's going to be the limiting factor.

The question here is, will the Eflite Power25 be putting out enough usable power with an 8x6 Master Paintstick 3-blader, or do we need something hotter? I'm asking myself the same question with regards to my Hobby Hangar OV-10 that's been sitting idle for the last two years.

Nah, it's recommending an 11" prop.... We need something hotter, like an AXi 2820/8. They show a 9x7 prop on 3S LiPoly for a hotliner. An 8x6 3-blader should be a good fit.

I'm partial to twins, and I like your project.
The Beech Baron B55 in my avitar was 50" span and weighed 4.25 pounds and powered with twin OS 15s. The equivalent of 15s or better in electric would be my guess for your power. An 8" diameter prop was scale for the B55. Was an excellent flyer and was sold years ago.

Thanks guys. I'm going to try to keep everything close to scale, including the flying(with some reserve just in case) It was designed from the start as an electric, but no suggestions were ever given for power... and then I "redesigned" it, adding an extra pound or so with all the details and changes to the airframe. This is only my third real twin, and the other two were already figured out for me. :)

Matt, I was thinking 8x6-ish for the props, they look "about right", just not sure what can spin them enough to fly this thing. I think .25's might be a little on the "hot" side, it is a pretty small plane. I'll take a close look at the 2820/8. Thanks!

feihu, thanks for the .15 suggestion... I do have a pair of .15LAs sitting unused at the moment. I guess if I get frustrated, I can convert to "slime power" :D Your Baron looks like a sweet little plane, got any more pictures of it?

I'm thinking over the Hacker A30-28S, should give me current draw of around 15A, with 25A peak. In theory, I'll have 550W total available input power between the two motors, which will get the plane flying at 70W-100W per pound (sporty scale - ish). Still thinking over the prop. Hacker suggests 9x6 - 10x5.... soooo 8x6 three blades may be a good match, hopefully.

Still looking for other ideas. :)
