Twin Electric Motors BIG PROBLEM

I need some help,

I have a twin Lightning, to which I have installed 2 brushless outrunner motors with 2 identical speed controllers (correct amps)

Because these motors are buried in the aircraft they were set up and tested as I went with the Hi Tec servo programmer, on manual function to run the engines and check everything. With everthing working correctly the fuselage and wings were sealed up.

I now came to fit the receiver and again individulally checked the motors with the TX.

The problem: one engine works and responds correctly the other dosn't. Checked again with the servo programmer and both function correctly.

Anyone have a clue whats going on, I cant find a problem.

Cheers

Warwick,
How are the ESCs connected. 'Y'd together and connected in the correct Ch of the Rx? Are both of the BECs active?

It doesn't make sense to seal any electronic in. All electronics should be accessable just for suck an occassion.

Does the motor than doesnt repond work at all?
Make it is hitting something.

If glue was used to seal it maybe it was glued to fusealge.

Is ESC in same compartment as motor?
Maybe motor wire wedged between motor and plane.

and so on......

Both motors are completely separate at the moment, as are the speed controllers. My next task was to Y lead the BECs with one having the power lead unplugged.

As mentioned earlier, both work correctly when individually plugged into the servo programmer but only one of the 2 works when plugged into the receiver. Only one motor at a time plugged into the receiver.

Check Castle Creations web site newsletter for twin motor setup.
http://www.castlecreations.com/media...03-Mar2006.pdf

maybe that will help

Hi

Your speed controlers should be on a Y , I do not use a BEC on a twin set up, pull that red wire out of the loom and run a 4.8 volt battery for your RX and servos on a switch

You said both work fine 1 at a time. Thats the KEY.

I think the together problem is the 2 BEC's fighting when Y'd. Do you know how to deactivate 1 of the BEC's red leads. ? Your RC setup book may tell you how. The ESC should have it for sure.

The BECs won't "fight" each other. They are producing the same exact voltage, or close enough to say so.

Have you connected each ESC to the receiver separately? Have you tried a different Y cable?

I've Y-d two brushless ESCs to a single channel in the receiver with no problems.
I also removed the red wire from one of the ESC leads to the receiver, with no problem.
Either way works.

Warwick - what model receiver are you using?

I had the same problem with my twin ducted fan. I found through trial and era that the esc with the active bec neaded to be plug in to the battery first . If I pluged in the esc with the bec disabled first ,that speed controle would not power up.
