props?
will a 4 blade prop make a plane go faster than a 2 blade(given that the motor speed is the same)???
just wondering if a different prop can be an upgrade for my plane. |
RE: props?
prop size and pitch will make a difference, not number of blades.
Not knowing what the torque of the motor is at the given RPM's but lets pretend that your motor has enough torque to drive a bigger prop. For instance if you have a 10 inch prop now and want a little more speed you may go with a 11 inch prop at the same pitch. Or... If you want to keep the same size prop and want more speed you can get a 10 inch prop with a bigger pitch that will provide more pull. e.g. 10X7 prop. 10 is the size in inches and the 7 is the pitch. want more speed go with 11X7 or 10X8 props. NOTE: bigger prop and steaper pitch mean more resistance for the motor. The motor rpm will drop slightly unless your motor has enough torque to drive the prop. I know this sounds a little jumble but it is midnight...... Hope this helps |
RE: props?
thanx, that make sense to me. i feel like i just got prop 101. most likely, the motor i have will slow down if more effort is required to turn the prop. but its still good to know and understand. especially if i ever have to get a replacement. thanx.

RE: props?
Also be aware that a longer prop or one with a greater pitch will draw more amps/watts due to the added load. Just make sure your ESC will handle the additional current.
